How do you feel about alcohol though since its a legal stimulant?
To me drinking and drugs isnt a big deal because when I was growing up I didnt witness my parents drinking and smoke. I was aware that people drank and smoked but it was like "That aint what my people do" It wasnt in our fridge and they didnt have it atleast where I could find it growing up. The first time I saw my pops drink I was 15 at a family reunion, he was chillin with my uncles and aunties and shyt and they were all drinking and he had a beer. When I started to experiment with alcohol I saw how I reacted differently from my friends (who basically love the shyt, some are full fledged 3+ dui having alcoholics- others just moderate drinkers)
It mainly goes back to the systems. Like everything else, rehab, counseling, and therapy is expensive. This is an just example but its also blatantly how it is. White people have insurance, finances, and family structures to get to and from rehab, intensive outpatient and inpatient treatment not just once but multiple times. Another issue is that the modalities used by some therapists, counselors and such were designed for white men by white men and dont take in to account ethnic and diverse populations, basically whats good for white people aint necessarily good for mexicans, blacks, asians, native americans etc. Lets be honest if your in the hood or on section 8- your not sending someone to counseling or rehab unless they are court ordered. Your more liable to end up dead or in jail because of your 'hobby' or addiction. I'll find the source of this but, in areas where poverty and usage were higher, users were more likely to end up in and out of a hospital more than once due to overdose, sickness or injury resulting from usage than an initial stint or trip to rehab or counseling.
I interned at a native american treatment center 4 years ago before that I had heard about Native Americans and being alcoholics and I was like who in America doesnt drink? Then I worked there and I was like
Its almost too easy to fall victim and too tough to get out unless you have structures and systems at your advantage.
