Meh. My DNA was already in the system any way.

:manny:

I’ve been arrested before and was on probation so they already got me.

Alarmist. Especially considering the article is behind a pay wall. It doesn't even mention that the DNA is anonymizied and some grant consumers legal ownership of their DNA, meaning 23andme must destroy their data when requested.

So if a non-healthcare entity were to buy 23andme, they would open themselves up to several lawsuits if people decide to sue.

Doesn't mean people should stop using these services. They were new and out there before strong regulations existed. So going forward we should see shyt like this and table legislation that is in place as a contingency to stop data transfer without consent in the future. Everything isn't a finesse. This was the wild West when they first started. Now the industry is getting more streamlined and so should the regulations.

I see the goofy conspiracy nuts in here tryna do a victory lap on some "I told you so" shyt. Smart people don't fear development or the future they learn how to live with it. Regulate it, which is what will come from this development. Advocacy for regulation because there is oversight on this Data which includes medical information not being covered by HIPAA. Alternatively past clients could ask for a block of the sale if there was no clause for transfer of personal data included in the original transaction. Do anything but fear monger. This is now shyt is handled in society NOT just being obtuse and counter productive saying shyt like "y'all let cacs do this n that" type sentiments are not helpful, the presumption always being science is Cacs domain and brehs were unwitting pawns and powerless to opposed such developments. This inferiority complex mindset needs to die.

Knowing all types of health information about myself and what to take in order to maximize and unlock my mental abilities was worth it tenfold.

I went from being a low energy “keyboard warrior” to someone who’s about to finish two STEM degrees and job stacking remote tech jobs because I know what I was deficient in and how I best work. Additionally when new genes are found, someone can check if they have them quickly.

People have no idea how much these companies, the government, etc. know about you anyways if you’re on their Internet. So I rather know a lot more about myself to maximize what I can do.

the main consumer of this type of material would be insurance companies imo.
