So you believe Kelis story

Nas beat Kelis cuz she said hi to Jay at an industry partywhile he was SIGNED TO DEF JAM BY JAY
That don't sound like a winner to me and I'm a huge Stan of both
I'm worth over a hundred million
I got beef with a hundred children
n***** with pink suits (fakkit)
trying to get cute
I know he's talking about Nas too, but there is no way that isn't also a swipe at Cam. He talks about beef with other dudes the line before, and we all know how Cam was dressing at the time.
Never?I've never heard this song.
Never?
Am I really this old?
Have you even listened to the Funkmaster Flex Freestyle cd?
Can you explain the context of “happy ass beats”?
All this is true and a good breakdown.
BUT
Super Ugly is still a great diss record that follows from Takeover. Ultimately, Jay-Z in Takeover characterized Nas as a clown fraud who exercises poor judgment. So Nas choosing to have a baby with an obvious hoe is an example of that bad judgment.
I think part of the reason Super Ugly didn't hit is because the industry as a whole made a decision that Nas was the winner and pushed it. And Nas already characterized Jay-Z as a marginally-talented, attention-seeking super stan. Super Ugly on the surface reaffirmed that Nas was right. The reality is that most people dismissed Super Ugly the moment dude said "I'm worth like a hundred million, I got beef with like a hundred children." The line itself is weak but the flow is awful. It's the worst line in the entire song, and it comes early. A little error like that is all it takes for you to lose. The song quickly recovers when he talks about having more shooters in the bridge than Nas but by then people have lost interest.
Jay-Z and Nas battle is a masterclass in how to approach diss records imo. Both came at the shyt from different angles. Though I think Jay-Z's approach is better in the long run.
No.
Super ugly is a terrible diss record. I remember when it premiered for the first time. It was lazy and cheap. It was so bad that Jay and Dame started saying it was just a freestyle off the top and that's why it was so light....
.....but Jay doesn't write rhymes so how could it have been a freestyle off the top? Everything he does is off the top. It was a damage control ducktale that lead to the concession speech known as Blueprint 2.
because he didn't rhyme on original production. They were already-used beats. Hence 'freestyle'.
Super Ugly is a top 10 diss record to me. Him being able to come up with something that great that quick is pretty damn remarkable. Many rappers could spend weeks/months coming up with a diss and not write anything a quarter as good.
Textbook definition of a struggle bar. Plus he dry-snitched on A.I.![]()
