Achievement In Every Field of Human Endeavor
One month ago today.

+ We've heard so much that Devin Sanchez could have a huge impact this season. I am more and more leaning toward him being "the Jeremiah Smith of the defense," meaning he has a major role and potentially even starts. The buzz just keeps getting louder and louder. Hard to ignore right now.
+ I keep beating the drum but it's worth mentioning that Jaylen McClain was another guy I heard great things about from sources other than just the former players.
+ One source is a big, big fan of Riley Pettijohn and TJ Alford as potential special teams players and defensive contributors during their freshman season.
+ Same source said C.J. Hicks looks good.
+ Working to confirm but I believe a former Buckeyes player and NFL veteran is helping out in the building right now. More details if I can get them confirmed.
It’s go time for CJ. Praying this kid takes that leap. Some winter workout updates from On3
May need him too with losing JT and Jack. I can see us doing more odd front looks and he comes in as an edge rusher. It’s go time for CJ. Praying this kid takes that leap.
- Talked to a couple of people in Indianapolis who said they wouldn't be surprised if Donovan Jackson was actually the first Buckeye off the board in April. Josh Simmons has been considered the pretty big favorite on that front, and he probably still is, but Jackson is really moving up in a lot of people's eyes.
- Simmons is considered a first round lock and while I wouldn't go quite that far with Emeka Egbuka, it feels like it's almost impossible that he falls out of Round 1 in a pretty weak WR draft.
- Pro Days probably loom large for Sawyer and JT. Seems safe they won't make it to the third round but neither have cemented first round status either and it's a good defensive end draft which makes things more difficult.
- No one seems to have any idea where to project Will Howard with one NFL person saying anything between 3rd round and 6th round seems possible. Combine didn't help him, but the reality is that nobody that would pick him on the higher end of the spectrum is doing it because he has amazing physical tools so it's hard to know just exactly how much it hurt.
- Stock up for Ty Hamilton in talking to a few people.
- It doesn't sound like it's going to hurt him, but I think a lot of people were surprised how close Tre Henderson's 40 time was to Judkins'. I think most people thought the gap would be wider there and that Henderson might run a little better.
- Not OSU related and not earth-shattering, but Shedeur Sanders is pretty polarizing. You don't have to work very hard to find people who would stay completely away from him, but there are undoubtedly several teams picking high up in the draft that are considering him.
- Quinshon Judkins helped himself out quite a bit with the sub 4.5-second 40 and the broad jump. The broad jump specifically caught the attention of NFL people as it is a great measure of explosiveness. It's an incredibly deep draft at running back but Judkins seemed to really raise his floor in terms of where he could be pick in April.
On to Winter buzz around the Woody...
- Sonny Styles emerging as a major leader. Started during the season a bit but has turned up a notch this winter. Block 0 favorite in my opinion.
- Another emerging leader? Luke Montgomery. Huge confidence gained from his play late in the season and he is becoming one of the major voices on the offense.
- Second-year guys I'm hearing particularly good things about; James Peoples, Eddrick Houston and Ian Moore. Folks around the Woody think Peoples and Houston have a chance to become legitimate stars this fall. Moore is expected to push both Onianwa and Phil Daniels in those tackle battles. "Don't pencil those guys (Onianwa and Daniels) in" as one source put it.
- Probably not shocking, but still reassuring, Tavien St. Clair and Devin Sanchez look college ready. TSC is blowing people away with his mindset and work ethic and we all know he has tremendous arm talent. Sanchez won't be kept off the field this fall.
- It's going to take a miracle to unseat Arvell Reese, but they really like the true freshmen linebackers as well as second-year guys Payton Pierce and Garrett Stover.
"Most linebacker depth we've had in years" from one source.
- A lot of good things being said about Julian Sayin in terms of his mental acumen and ability to execute physically but I get the sense they'd like to see a little more fire out of the QB room. Sayin and Kienholz aren't naturally rah rah guys, and they don't necessarily need to be as CJ Stroud wasn't, but I think a little more fire is wanted there and they'll try to pull it out of those guys this spring.
- Just in asking around a bit, I tend to think a lot of the vets are going to be mostly in bubble wrap this spring. A lot of wear and tear this past season and a quick turn around. I think a lot of the spring will be heavily focused on developing young players and pushing competition at some of the open spots.
