The word is ignorance if you can't muster the ability to hear another opinion even if, or especially if said statement differs from yours..
Is avoiding all meaningful dialogue and being a passive aggressive ho your MO strictly online or are you this pathetic IRL to?is Bitta your other account?
I can see your side of the argument, and can also see the other side. Discourse on certain subjects is just a method of basically spreading fake news. Problem is, once you censor that, where do you stop? Free speech really is a double edged sword..and this was never more apparent to me than nowEngage in conversation if conversation is truthful.
I think its always a positive, even if its with a idiot, you can atleast refine your own argumentation so that you think about counters you might not have thought about before, so you refine arguments against you that you might have been loose on. When it becomes a shouting match you get in trouble because you both look stupid, but maintain your disicipline and let the person talk, let them tell you exactly how they feel and their thought process.
Gaining information is never bad, even if the information you gain is that a person is a idiot.
There is no such thing as fake news. Stop with the rally lingo.I can see your side of the argument, and can also see the other side. Thing is, its not always easy to smack down a false idea. Some are very eloquent with word, and the easily duped are pulled right along. While yes, he may be refuted by more knowledgeable persons, the uneducated (and at times educated) may still fall prey to his eloquence. Then his job is done...There is no such thing as fake news. Stop with the rally lingo.
You spread ideas, either the ideas are logically backed and argued or they aren't. Simple as that.
If you have a problem with ideas being spread, the issue is on you, not anyone else.
Free speech isn't a double edged sword at all, its a beautiful and necessary concept in any civilized society. Its sad to see that in the west among the so called "enlightened" and "progressives" that you are adapting this mindset but then again the adaption of this mindset is probably why things are the way they are now.
I'll keep it short and say if an idea is false or poorly argued its easy to smack it down, if people reject it, that is on them, they made that choice and its their right to do so.
I can't really say I'm surprised he negged me. Ho's gonna ho.Is avoiding all meaningful dialogue and being a passive aggressive ho your MO strictly online or are you this pathetic IRL to?
this is true, however, the answer isn't shutting down free speech like most would have you believe.Thing is, its not always easy to smack down a false idea. Some are very eloquent with word, and the easily duped are pulled right along. While yes, he may be refuted by more knowledgeable persons, the uneducated (and at times educated) may still fall prey to his eloquence. Then his job is done...
I am not for reducing free speech. But to say it is not a double edged sword is false. Just how it can be used for the good of the people, it can be used in an opposite manner.
It usually is pretty easy, you just have to train yourself into listening to the idea being presented and not how its presented.Thing is, its not always easy to smack down a false idea. the problem is that ppl like to debate about things as if the answer was as obvious as the flat earth debate. No one would argue that the sky is blue, or water is wet. these things are obvious and engaging in those arguments is pointless and a waste of time and effort IMO.Why in the high holy fukk should I debate with someone that the Earth is not fukking flat when science has not only proven it but you can literally...right now...view a picture of the fukking Earth...FROM SPACE.
Every other heavenly body is fukking round or at the very least an ellipse.
If you, as an adult, think that the world is flat and have at the very least, a junior high school education, you are a fukking moron plain and simple.
You can debate and reason with them, you also have to willing to accept that people wil different beliefs, principles, and priorities will disagree vehemently on things. It's actually one of the reasons I stopped watching Bill Maher. There's no reason to give any credence to these disingenuous beliefs of the right. They don't listen to or believe in facts so you can't debate or reason with them.
Beliefs and facts are two different things. You can debate and reason with them, you also have to willing to accept that people wil different beliefs, principles, and priorities will disagree vehemently on things.
That is the benefit of debate, you can learn more about the people you disagree with, that is a very important tool if you want to better sell what you believe in.
Who said they were the same thing?Beliefs and facts are two different things.
