Not opposed to the movement, but also, I kinda want people to just move on since Reddit has shown their intentions/indifference even if they are forced to walk it back.

FWIW, if/when Reddit doesn't budge after widespread pushback, it will make the backlash more permanent and expedite the actions of those who choose exodus

It’s crazy how Reddit tried to make it seem like he threatened them. I’m telling Silicon Valley is dead because back in the day we would have seen an alternative by now. They’ve turned all the perspective competitors into employees with non compete contracts.

A couple of Reddit's largest communities are going dark Mon-Wed to protest new API policy just a heads up. Some are going indefinitely

The CEO did a Q/A yesterday and told everybody tough shyt and got ratio'd. They're willing to work with anybody willing to work with them but haven't responded to questions in many cases for days or weeks. Explicit content still allowed they'll restrict ways you can view it.

Says Reddit hasn't made a profit but 3rd party apps have. It was always about the data/money. I love Apollo because it doesn't collect data at all, Reddit's app collects your location, IMEI, browsing history, other apps on your phone, name on iCloud/Google account and a lot more.

Reddit & Twitter are sinking at the same time it's crazy

shyts too complicated nowadays. Even if an alternative popped up, the people who drive the traffic aren’t going to just up and leave accounts with tens/hundreds of millions of followers. Companies that depend on the traffic (media orgs etc) are slow to move. There are all kinds of corporate agreements/contracts that would probably be difficult to unwind etc. Plus many of the users are already sufficiently addicted to the point they also don’t want to “start over.”

I just realized through this I get a ton of info about my town through reddit. This is good in principle but I'm sure the site can take a hit for 48 hrs. Would need to be at least a month to get them to budge imo

I guess the plan is to see if they can ramp it up. I read an article that there is a chance if the blackouts were too long Reddit would kick mods and try to replace them with hired staff and if that happened there could be a real end to the service.

Which could happen. SOHH became the TheColi, and I know NeoGAF became Resetera. Mods tend to be the ones that lead platform migrations.

I also heard this change to api might lead to a lot of bots no longer working. There is enough stuff here that Reddit might want to tread carefully.

Some communities are indefinite, and some more are reevaluating after the two days, probably going longer. Regardless, yesterday was probably Reddit’s last normal day :wow:
