Probably not but you should check it out. This coming Red Dead 2 game's story is a prequel to the first Red Dead game.
This is a prequel to Red Dead Redemption and you’ll be playing as a different character, so you can probably just jump in cold and still enjoy the story. However, I’d still suggest that you experience the first game in some way just to familiarize yourself with story and characters since a bunch of them will be making a return to this game, including the main character, John Marston, that way you’d be much more invested in narrative from the jump.
If you don’t want to go through the whole game(took me 20 hours to complete),You can watch the mashup of its cutscenes presented like movie.
