I never gave my opinion on the epilogue in this thread...I can enjoy something and recognize/understand why someone might not...you seemed to try and discredit his opinion by practically saying it was unheard of...my only retort was that it was a popular opinion that I’ve heard many others voice before on/offline
as to my actual opinion...I thought the epilogue was a bit tedious initially but it paid off in the end and was worth it...and it sparked my interest in RDR1 (and digging deeper into JM’s character) which I had not really played prior to RDR2

just started playing this yesterday while I'm still playing the Witcher 3...I'm liking rdr2 so far
Edit: I didn't even mind the beginning tbh. I also like the fact that I can interact with the npcs and the world feels a lot more vibrant compared to w3.
One too many times npcs were talking reckless in w3 and I couldn't do nothing to them...rdr2 these npc's are going to receive all of this smoke and then some
Beat it over the weekend. Thought I wasn't gon make it and contemplated selling it at times. Glad I didn't. As someone else said, once you get to 30% it picks up. First open-world game I've ever beaten. Tryna cop the first RDR now.

ya you should...it still holds up very well...was playing it before I got sidetracked by ‘ghost of tsushima’...will jump back into it once I finish ‘ghost...’

I'll fully admit, if I didn't already care about John, I wouldn't have gained much more reason to in 2, hence I wouldn't care too much about his whereabouts and the direct connection to the other game, that made me care about him in the first place
Just like in 1 I didn't care too much about Jack, but I was up for avenging John; I didn't gain much MORE care towards John in this one, but I fw Arthur so much I had to get his back (he lapped John up in my mental power ranking, where John was my favorite character ever). That's just what I carried from the game, but it's also hard to imagine playing this without having played 1 as is
Definitely not "necessary"; you can wrap up a story however you think you need to. You can also absolutely hate something and still deem it necessary. I can admit I was wrong on the waste of time part; I shouldn't have spoken against y'alls experience/opinion. Regarding the overall sentiment of the epilogue, neither me, nor you, nor @Brief Keef nor @Magic's Johnson are right or wrong. However I do vehemently disagree with y'all regarding it, even as someone who rushed through it and stopped playing the PS4 playthrough entirely after it ended.
I guess they could have cut out the ranch and Beecher's Hope or put it in a cutscene, but 1. that's the vibe of the whole game (which ppl complained about tbf) and 2. that's just what John was and shoulda been on. You actually see the blood sweat and tears he poured into laying low and getting his family a better life, and it's the ultimate respect to Arthur's words and sacrifice. It almost re-frames the way I view the first game.
Also, the entire reason the 1st game happened was because of the little action you do get in the epilogue. Gameplay wise it's just an extension of the rest of the game
I'm curious what y'all think would have been a better epilogue, if y'all have some ideas (no )
True, but he didn’t really end up back in that life until essentially the end of the epilogue (which basically goes straight into 1). The whole vibe I took away was establishing he wasn’t tryna be John Marston at all, and was trying to fully embrace all that came with the Milton life. And all the tedium that came with it
More action seems like it would have required a different story for that section
Man I wished I copped this game when the rest of yall copped it...I missed out on all of the trash talking and updates in here
But this game is ...and I didn't even start the main missions yet outside of freeing Micah out of jail and hunting the legendary bear
Speaking of the bear mission...I foolishly forgot my rifle on my horse, so when I found him I only had a pistol on me
I was pressing dead eye so fast but it was too late...Yogi had my number and took my soul
So far I've just been looking for gold, robbing people who were talking reckless to me, and looking for hidden items...unless this game gets wack later on I can already tell thats its going to be one of my favorite games ever
The attention to detail and how the world feels real is
I already got a $300 and $200 tab and I'm not paying
Couple of times I was caught out there slipping and they put me in the dirt..killed my war horse (Deliah) and had me running, falling down hills busting my cranium open
Had me taking that long walk back to camp with no horse questioning my decisions about not paying...now I'm in debt
