The Documentary- Great lyrically, and changed Hip-Hop in that it brought the West Coast back into the mainstream Hip-Hop scene after a long time of no major new artists having a hit album.

I would also put in OBFCL2, Be, The College Dropout, Food & Liquor and Tha Carter II.

Also, this.

I know it was a mixtape, but it felt like an album to me.

The Cool, if not that then College Dropout.

Heres a thread from Oct of 2006. Some interesting comments lol

F&L is definitely a 4.5 Micer. I wanna call it a classic but I'm gonna give a year and still holds its replay value and significance. I might just feel that way because he spoke on a lot of things I've always wanted to say but don't have the skills to.

I think Game called it right when he said Kid has the potential to be the next NaS. He might need a little more edge to him but he's definitely something between Q Tip and Nas.

But the sheer amount of creativity and lyrical excellence make this a classic in the same vein as Resurrection. Time will tell if it has anymore significance.

But nah, this album is a 4. 10 years ago it's a 3.5 I'm disappointed because I expected better. The lyricism and creativity was amazing but some of the garbage hooks almost ruined the album for me. His decision not to spit on the intro/outro is one of the worst decisions on an album ever. BTW, whose idea was it to put a 12 minute shoutout on the end of the cd. Besides that it's a good album.
They took off some great songs from the advance, theme music to a drive by, real recognize real & his verses from trials and tribulations (org pressure).

I feel like some people are looking for something to call classic in a time where hip hop is pretty much wack and they completely ignore the obvious flaws of an album.

To the 80's baby Generation Lupe's Food and Liquor is a DEFINITE classic...it's our generation's version of Nas' Illmatic.

man this ni99a album is classic..... all u so called hard *****s need to wake the fuk up wit ya soft asses'.

this ni99a had a album full of MUSIC.

There aren't any. But it was a bad year. I never said it wasn't the hottest album of the year, just that it wasn't a 4.5 mic album. I'd say it's closer to a 3.5 than a 4.

People call everything they like a classic these days. Apparently, when it's not a 'classic' it can't be liked.
