Realistically, what was the last classic album?

As you age, it becomes harder and harder to have a visceral reaction to music. As a result, you become preoccupied with irrelevancies such as "reviews" and "credibility" which then leads you to gravitate towards more "credible" acts, who are almost invariably less talented and charismatic than the so-called posers. In other words, you have your guard up, which makes it nearly impossible to allow a song to evoke a feeling or emotion within you. You know, the entire point of art?

Off the top anything that is a few years old wouldn't fit my personal definition of a classic album because it really hasn't been around long enough to say for sure. If the record is not unique enough to stand out even 7-8 years after it came out then I wouldn't call it classic.

The last legit classic to me was The Blueprint. It is one of the few albums that has great production but Jay-z is never outshined by it. Pretty much a 9 or 10 in every category. This is the same reason I DONT think The Documentary is classic even though I like the album a lot.

Respected and listened to by who though? Look at how many garbage yet popular artists from the 70s and 80s are still eating off their back catalogues. Are their albums classic just because the same casual listeners bought it when it was new, then went to the nostalgia show/reunion concert later in life?

I don't hear Illmatic and The Blueprint on the street nowadays that doesn't mean they aren't classics.

But you gonna contribute to the thread though? :shaq:
