I'm inclined to agree and this is coming from someone who saw it in the theaters as a kid and watched it literally everyday once it hit VHS.

I think people get blinded by the costume and set design the iconic Danny Elfman theme, Jack Nicholoson's Joker, the gadgets ("shields on"),etc.
but at it's core it is kind of mid.

For its time period it was a smash. Nothing had been done like it before. You can’t compare this to anything from the MCU or even Blade in 98 almost 10 years later because it set the stage.

We don’t compare Magic Johnson to James Harden do we?

Probably in my top 10-15 movies all time.

Not saying it’s a cinematic masterpiece but one of my personal favorites.
