This just hit me 2 weeks ago. My boy is 4 and the wiz is pregnant with our 2nd due in March. I don't watch television outside of Jeapordy, some history and a maybe a few other programs. My boy loves site words videos and we have him on some STEM dvds. Now he is starting to get into the Marvel/D.C. thing. Taking an interest in his education is cool, I get to do shyt my parents never did with us. Before I allow him to watch certain programming (anything outside of education) I have him read along a page or 2 with me. I started this 2 weeks ago and I believe it can be beneficial. I thought I'd share this to exchange ideas with other parents. Please add on if you do something similar
peace almighty!

The sleepless city
I was deemed one of those talented kids in Kindergarten and stayed the path until I got that first smart phone in middle school :wow: became a lazy fukk after wards

Key takeaway: wean how much technology your kid uses or he’ll have damn near an ADD attention span like the rest of my generation

This shyt here is true as all hell...... seen it with my own eyes plenty .... that whole they're just kids, leave them alone, will come back and bite you in the ass....

Quoted for emphasis. Do not let your kids become a part of this failed social experiment. Limit their usage of smartphones, tablets etc.. It can completely ruin their attention span, increase their levels of anxiety/depression amongst many other negative impacts. And for the love of God do not expose them to social media if it's possible!

The most recent data regarding the impact of modern technology on children is quite terrifying.

Son knows all his ABC (upper and lowercase)and can count to 20. Also knows 6 colors and a few shapes. He's 21 months now. Last night I started putting more emphasis on reading, so I had him sound out the word "baby", "blippi" and "hi". Hi and baby we sounded out and he was able to pick up easily. Blippi took a lil work but he is a sponge right now.

This is a tip for uncles or people who watch kids from time to time. Parents can use it too.

If the children are watching something for the second time, or 3x,etc

turn the closed captioning on, so that they can see the words that they've already heard.

Only on a big screen tv where the captioning doesn't block the picture...and only on a program that they've seen before.
Helps them become aware/familiar with how words are spelled.
Great idea!

This may seem counterproductive but if you get him into PC gaming early, he'll very tech savvy by the time he reaches college and may develop into Software Engineer. Thats what happened with my brother. Not actually encouraging you to do that, just an example that shows you never know what kind of inspiration people will take from seemly wasteful hobbies. I felt with my daughter, it was best to just make sure she puts time and effort into her studies first and foremost. Anything else she wants to do for fun.(as long as it's safe and wholesome) is ok with me.
