its amazing how 90% of the people in this thread pretty much just make up their own definitions of what an atheist is, then try to argue against a definition they just made up themselves.

i am an atheist. i believe in logic, and rational thinking, and the scientific method (amongst other things). i reject the belief in things that have ZERO evidence to support them.

Here is the issue I have with atheists.

All of these things you listed are human concepts limited by the parameters of our senses and powers of perception. Humanity is one minuscule part of an inconceivably vast universe how can you possibly be so arrogant as to claim there can't be anything that is simply outside of our understanding.

It's like a world of blind people rejecting the concept of the color spectrum because they have no evidence to support it.

Oh look, black atheists are attention whoring as usual.......

i'll admit some of them give off a "look at me, look at me" vibe but many of them are also devoted to expanding the visibility and representation of black atheists to the world and that's never a bad thing.

heres a better question. how can you possibly be so arrogant as to claim that I think there can't be anything that is simply outside of our understanding...when i said nothing of the sort? how do you have the nerve to tell me what i believe is possible, and what i believe is impossible?

Here is the issue I have with theists. You think atheists want to attack you, and destroy everything you hold near and dear to your heart. You think we are this stubborn group of people that only accept one line of thinking and will not tolerate anything else. That couldnt be further from the truth.

We actually ask questions about the things around us. We want to find out the truth without having any kinda blinders on, or any kinda preconceived ideas that would affect results. We want to follow the evidence. We want to gather as many facts as possible, and come up with reasonable explanations (theories). Then we want to test out these theories millions of times in a million different ways to see if they still hold up reasonably well.

atheist are the worse than jahova witness because they love preaching, at least jahova's preach about what they believe in, atheist steady preaching about what they don't believe in.

I don't believe in the tooth fairy, I don't try and off load my views onto everyone else, if you don't believe why you feel the need to convert people

You're open to concepts outside our perception but you will reject them if there is no perceivable evidence to support them.

You want to find answers but have all ready taken a stance on the subject by defining yourelf as an atheist.

You sound confused, good luck my g

Whatever your thoughts are on theism or atheism...a surgence at this point by the black american segment to question the primary and arguably the oldest (social, cultural, intellectual) construct in this American Society (christianity)....is a very good thing. If you are going to commit to a system/thought pattern...that obviously has little impact on uplifting you socially/economically; then at least consider the other options first:yeshrug:...or at some point in your earthly existence.

The great thing about atheistic thinking is it revolves on logic and evidence. In other words, imagine the entire populace of black america withholding tithe money into investing, time spent in a pew to time spent in a classroom, repeating spooky tales to kids to explaining laws of land/nature/history to kids. I for one say that the end product would indeniably be a better one. A self aware and educated populace with non concentrated/predicatable capital that understands the law and knows thier history= A problem for any supremacist construct, injustice, or oppression. :blessed:

The opposite is a vastly segmented populace that does not understand secular sciences/laws/social dynamics, or has any method of controlling it's currency for effect. Kids that have no knowlege of self, self esteem, and largely direction. The only common theme among them is to sin and pray for forgiveness and cling to the hope that all this earthly bullshyt is over when Goku opens the clouds and tosses all the faithful senzu beans, and then everybody goes super saiyan and lives happily ever after on king kais planet.:patrice:

I still see no proof of an ancien atheistic society in Africa.

All the great african civilizations were not atheistic.

Basically, atheism was marginally found in Europe and in Asia. So I don't see why atheism should be the (new) black way.

Perfect example of what Atheist do. They claim something and when you ask them for proof, they respond like this.

They are basically trying to rewrite history and turn ancient Africa into modern Europe.

They are saying : "Black people should be atheists because that's what we were before we met Europeans".

You have no proof that all or even most atheists do this. Besides, I did it because I know that the poster in question is not responsive to evidence in the first place, and it's a waste to engage people who aren't responsive to evidence because their attachment to religion is emotional and thus irrational. It cannot be moved by evidence. It's the same with people who disbelieve evolution, vaccines, and the moon landing.
