Reading is probably at this point a top 3 form of entertainment.

The joy and benefits of reading are hard to explain to people because it's very much a locus of control thing

Reading is a skill and it's hard to develop because there are definitely levels of reading effectiveness but if you develop that skill:wow:reading skill has compound interest too:wow:

This is also why I shill fiction to men. Reading fiction is literal imagination training and a strong imagination will improve every aspect of your life:wow:
Yeah I'm big into non-fiction/history stuff but definitely want to read more fiction next year. gon hop on a sci-fi wave :wow:

some dudes fall into that neoliberal trap of thinking reading is only beneficial if it helps you conquer the world, manipulate people and make a bunch of money. 48 Laws of Power, the Slight Edge, No More Mr. Nice Guy, think and grow rich type books which are all very good but brehs gotta expand they mind cuz you can feel the lack of imagination in our modern culture.

Do y’all pick up books just to see what the argument is against your belief?
The best way to argue against a viewpoint is to be able to steel man it.

When you show that you understand your opponents perspective and can give the best possible faith interpretation on it,

Your counter argument is far stronger and more persuasive if you can then dismantle all the strongest points your opponent has.

Millions of books to choose from

When you buy the book, it's yours. No monthly subscription.

Doesn't require electricity

No ads

Can be used anywhere as long as you have a light source.

Unsurprisingly people are buying more of them.

Before ADHD gang comes in here, if books of all kinds are boring to you that's a skill issue and nobody else's problem but yours. Maybe get some meds, stay in your lane or kill yourself :ehh:

Currently enjoying this masterpiece

Was in a waiting room this week, everyone on their phones and I have a book.

You definitely are an outlier now as opposed the the pre-smart phone era where books and magazines would have been the only entertainment to pass the time :francis:

You under estimate the amount of people that read books on their phone. I was at a wedding and the guy sitting in front of me like this the whole time scrolling

we stood up to pray or something, homie wasnt scrolling the gram or tiktok, homie was reading something deep.

I have a hundreds of digital books, I download them and convert them to PDF so I can annotate and access them in all my devices.
You can tell when someone is well read.

They speak with a calm confidence, rarely searching for words, or stumbling over their next word.

That's not entirely true. Speaking is a skill, you actually have to speak to speak well. There's a lot of people that can speak but don't read, throw a rock and find some of these podcast talking mfs.

Even more of an outlier being a black man (depending on location). Whenever I'm in a book store I mostly see women and a few white men. Rarely see other brothas :francis:

You gotta go to a black bookstore. You do have some in your area right?
