Looking like it's going to be 90 Million Viewers between all three games. Chiefs and Raiders had a built in rivalry along with the Taylor Swift hype. Eagles and Giants also have a huge rivalry, both from big City Markets and the Eagles have been a huge ratings draw all year. Lastly 49ers and Ravens had a lot of hype with them both being 11-3. So yeah NFL definitely won the Christmas Day big time. The NBA had some decent matchups but couldn't compete with those 3 NFL games. Now since it's a leap year next year Christmas is on a Wednesday. I believe there will be Christmas NFL Games next year too. Maybe not 3 because logistically it will be hard. But I could see 2 games. Then in 2025 when Christmas is on Thursday, it will be 3 games again. They set up the schedule perfect too. A 1PM Game, 4:30PM Game around dinner time and then an 8:30 PM game while everyone is still chilling. There is no way they will let this Christmas Money go now.

Of course I have, but 2 hours of low impact backyard football is not scientifically proven to lead to brain deterioration
Football is life and those grown men made those choices just like ones who put on 8 or 10 oz gloves to give each other blunt force trauma for 10 or 12 rounds.

They need more nba games on network tv. Like I think that’s pretty much it. I guess networks may not want to hitch themselves to the nba for a whole 82 game season but they need to try. There’s still people out here who don’t have cable and don’t have these streaming services. I just wonder how the nfl would do if they put most of their games on cable outside of Sunday Night and Monday Night Football. Having to have nba tv to watch games sucks. The shyt don’t even come with a basic cable plan.
that's an issue you gotta take up with ABC since they're the only ones who can air them nationally.

as for streaming services, even as someone who hates them and doesn't really need them (especially after the pandemic), it's starting to feel like those people who never wanted to go to streaming, let alone mp3 players and thought copping CD's was the way to remain. Adapt or get left behind. The NFL has already been pushing those limits. MLB, MLS already doing it. The NBA by comparison has taken it easy on that front but with Bally's not panning out, games exclusively online might be the route teams take.

But ABC ain't gonna turn itself into a sports network primarily just cuz hoop heads don't wanna watch Nuggets /Grizzlies om NBATV

No you don’t think this

No it’s not. Maybe if you’re some weird New Yorker

No black person prefers the nba in the south
Basketball has a stronger foothold in Black culture than football does.

It doesn't mean we don't watch or play football but culturally basketball has always meant more within the culture that it goes deeper beyond just playing the game.

There's been numerous documentaries and talks about the connection of basketball and the Black community from Black activists, filmmakers, journalists, musical artists, athletes, etc speaking on the culture of basketball and it's relation and impact with Blackness.

You'd never get that same feeling with football even tho we make up majority of the league it doesn't resonate the same way basketball does culturally.

49ers..Braves..Celtics
That’s definitely valid but there’s still a lot of guys that haven’t been moving around

Yeah but the teams who have the most continuity are not really rivals aside from maybe the C's and Heat. The C's and Bucks/Sixers could be a rivalry I guess.... The Heat and Bucks are somewhat rivals.

The Nuggets and Warriors aren't really rivals. The Nuggets and Lakers aren't really rivals.

No it doesn’t. If had that type of hold people would watch it more

The nba suck frfr. No rivalries, the players don’t care, nikkas quitting and forcing their way to teams.

Everyone is spamming moving screens, step back 3s and kick outs to corner 3s

The NBA Cup just showed a version of this, the Pacers are an average team that got hot at the right time and made it to the title game.

In a 7 game series we all know they’re not beating the Celtics or Bucks but you make it single elimination and now they have a chance

Like you said, it’s an inherent structural difference that just cannot be avoided
Yup. It's not the sport, it's the format. College basketball, soccer cups, etc. are the same thing with high risk games. There is no "next game" in your season.

In football there are so few downs and games played through the season in addition to the one-and-done format it just raises the stakes.

A shytty call by the ref in week 5 can basically cost an NFL team's Super Bowl chances when they miss the play-offs by a single game.

Even a shytty weather condition at just the right week can mean donezo.
Teams will plan up an insane aerial attack through the week targeting a mismatched corner, only for it to start pouring come game time.
Right in the middle of a game your team is down vs a team you can beat and the sun starts shining in your direction the 2nd half or the wind starts blowing into you as you try to make your comeback. All the while the defense is having a hard time getting them off the field because they're sliding off tackles and the whole season is riding on the few games you have.

Yes it does, only reason the NFL ratings are higher is because of it's connection among boomers and white conservatives (basically White America in general).

This goes back to the 70s when the NBA's ratings started dipping because white viewers stopped tuning in due to the league changing...has nothing to do with Black people not watching the NBA. The NFL is the one who has lost a percentage of Black viewership over the years, NBA has no issues with obtaining or attracting black viewers. The NFL does especially after the Kaep situation hence them bringing in Jay-Z and having all these halftime shows featuring Black artists and music more synonymous with Blackness (R&B, Hip-Hop, etc) as a way of attracting mpre black viewers.

I think you need continuity in both roster and playoff opponents. You can argue for Celtics/Heat and Bucks/Heat

Nuggets don’t have a rival yet. I think the Lakers could’ve been if they played them in 21 or 22

It would absolutely go down.

There is a reason why the NFL wanted to be on as many OTA channels as possible, maximum exposure.

N-gga NBA is watched and respected in other countries, NFL out here desperately trying to get people overseas to watch their product all while struggling trying to get those same people to stop brigging up the football vs football question :mjlol:
