J5 studied the Tempts religiously. Before they were even signed to motown, j5 were recording my girl on Steeltown records and winning talent shows in Gary off of Tempt songs. MJ studied Ruffin tirelessly.

They definitely influenced them but the J5 was a band and MJ got his whole swag from James Brown and Jackie Wilson

They came up in an era where you HAD to know how to sing. David Ruffin is one of the best vocalist ever, eddie kendrick has one of the best head voices ever.

There is no J5 if weren't for the Temps. Mj was inspired by a slew of different artist: Jackie, James Brown, Ruffin, Sammie Davis Jr.
J5 probably would've never been discovered if not for the Tempts.
