as a resident i give this area a 6.

city life is a bit meh, everything is becoming the same, and too damn expensive
night life scene is too redundant
is getting harder for non homos to really enjoy ourselves in downtown spaces
black party scene has been forced to very random locations throughout the city
metro needs to do a better job servicing pg county, and certain spots in dc
our parks need massive improvements(pg & dc)

pros

great area for whatever you need
great access to other cities
great for business minded people
good school system(mo county, va)
great private schools
great public & private universities
decent music scene
great area for concerts and live shows
great for certain ethnic cuisines mainly in the surburbs(caribbean, greek, peruvian, indian, ethiopian, central american, african)

As a “Native” of DC (NE) I'm going to give my city a solid 8.5. I say that because no city in my opinion deserves a 10.

What my city has to offer unlike others is the opportunity for a person of African descent to make great money, climb social ladders, have access to top notch school systems and places of higher education and still interact with folks from different cultures.

Granted DC is no longer “Chocolate City” and for that I’m sadden but it’s still a better place to be if your an ADOS, Caribbean and African unlike other East Coast cities.

Is the “flavor” gone from the city? In some way yes but there’s still pockets of that “flavor”.

The Chapters (1-3)
Deno’s/ The Met

Nah it’s not fair to y’all to be lumped into the DMV umbrella. It’s lazy.

On some larger mid Atlantic shyt sure but that’d include southern VA too. Baltimore is its own place with its own vibrant culture to offer people. Lowkey makes me proud of Maryland, we got Baltimore and DC wouldn’t exist without MD so it’s a part of the state culturally at least.

I'll give DC a 9. I was living there for 5 years and I saw the time of pre gemtrification to post gentrification (04-09).

Pre gentrification:

Educated, sexy black women

Great job market for non STEM majors to excel

A lot of solid black neighborhoods in PG county that are black excellence

The real HU.....YOU KNOW!!!!! Homecoming is always GOAT status.

Mambo Sauce

Black people all over the world (various Africans, Caribbean, Black Americans).

Black elite class

Lack of white people outside of the Congressional District

Great Ethiopian Spots

Great, CLEAN Public Transportation. Cleaner than NY by miles, despite being more expensive.

But Gentrification hammered it down a lot post 2009.......now all kinds of fukkery with regulations hammered it down. Its now super expensive and overpopulated.

Talking about “the schools are so great” and you find out they talking about the schools in Potomac. Well no shyt. Every suburban community of major cities got great schools.

DC score is inflated very high, and from what I know from my own visits to DC, and the family I have living there, something ain’t adding up.

9/10. Lots of thriving Black communities, good school systems. Prices have kind of gone up but if it weren't for that it would be a 10/10. Still cheaper than NY and parts of NJ.

- better job market than most
- has the infrastructure of other major capitols without the overkill
- a real Pro Black/Pan African community with schools and religious centers
- richest Black County in the country (PG)

- small town/big city + northern/southern feel
