10/10
My second most favorite city in the country. You can get practically everything this country has to offer materialistically in NYC.
Got one of the GOAT skylines in the world, a major mover and shaker in the world of art, music, fashion, dance, business, international politics, real estate, architecture, cuisine, media, etc. Birthplace of Hip Hop and even if it’s no longer as big of a heavyweight as it was back in the 80’s up to the early 00’s, it’s still the de facto capital of all things Hip Hop and treats it as an actual culture that oozes throughout its streets unlike most cities in the country. They still got one of the most exciting Hip Hop scenes in the country too, even if some of the acts never make noise beyond the Tri-State, they still be lit to listen to and check up on. NYC is also the birthplace of Salsa and Garage House (one of my most fav House music genres) and has been a major player in Jazz, Instrumental music, R&B, New Jack Swing, Merengue, Deep House, Pop music, Reggae, Dancehall, and Punk music.
Manhattan is always a fun time and so is Brooklyn, which I wanna explore more of. I’m very curious about Queens and the hidden gems of The Bronx. Don’t really have much of a desire to visit Staten Island unless someone can recommend some places to check out.
Love the NYC accent and the slang is iconic and GOAT status. I actually enjoy how animated New Yorkers can be, that’s how you know they’re a special breed of people lol. Food is one of the best in the world...Whether it be greasy spoons, hole in the walls, hood food, fancy/bougie shyt, brunches, international offerings, etc., you can find it in New York. Very walkable city and love how extensive their subway is and love the fact the Subway is a whole nother world unto itself.
Love the architectural diversity and the ethnic diversity....Love how each borough does its own thing and feel and look pretty distinct from each other for the most part. 24/7 nightlife and kinetic energy and pace.
Only cons I can think of for NYC is the hyper-gentrification, NYPD being on dikks towards Black and Latinx residents, very high COL, it can be pretty dirty and smelly in parts, and for being one of the main breeding grounds for Shea Butter Twitter/New Age ass negroes (most especially Brooklyn).
The women be BAAAADDDDD and not all of them be sounding like dudes, especially if they’re not hoodrats. The transplant women be bad asf too frfr. I also really enjoy the significant Afrocentric energy that can be found in Brooklyn, Harlem, and even East Harlem.
I wanna explore the Boroughs more but in the case of Manhattan, I will definitely say my most favorite neighborhoods are:
Harlem
World Trade Center/Financial District
Flatiron District
Upper East Side
East Harlem
Lower East Side
East Village
SoHo
