Richmond def has potential. And while I don't feel its particularly racist, it definitely is segregated as hell, so unless you're Uptown, there isn't a large level of integration in Rich and even Uptown it varies by the block...

East End and Northside are almost entirely black, West End almost entirely white, Southside has growing number of Mexicans and a bunch of blacks and whites but they all kinda in they own sections, Uptown is diverse but kinda block by block. So its growing more diverse but the city definitely needs to get more integrated...

They have improved both GRTC and RIC so transit is improving. Everything else is already there, Richmond is most definitely on the rise...

Let’s be real. The white people in West Henrico aren’t going to take bus. It will probably need some kind of Light rail system as it keeps expanding into Goochland to connect Chesterfield, west and Downtown.

Mayor Stoney’s Navy Hill project would be a major boom to attracting more businesses downtown but I understand the financial reluctance to building a big new stadium.

Nah, cant allow this slander to happen.

I can feel the start of the confederacy in the air -
that place is entrenched with racism and segregation.
Real bad aura.

Drive around the city proper and you would NOT find a Confederate flag hanging on the porch. NO MAGA caps either. Richmond is a very blue, very liberal city.

Black owned restaurants, black-owned bars, black owned fish markets, black-owned bakeries, black owned BANK (Maggie Walker's bank), never had a problem with cacs down here, police are respectable and mostly black.

No stop-in-frisk, black mayors who arent aloof billionaires, gentrification isn't kicking nikkas out, no giants rats, and yes we have NY pizza down here too oh and a BLACK OWNED pizza parlor.

It’s a city that really should be a town. Downtown area can be seen in a quick 20 min drive. The rest of the “city” ain’t nothing like a real city. No good transportation system. No real clubs (va doesn’t allow club only venues). Strip joints have pasties. Only a few bars.

What is amazing is the food, art and live music scene. Also a lot of history here. But if you’re down to find the local spots or the hidden gems, it’ll be a waste of time to come...

Location wise, being 90 mins from DC, Va beach, and NC is good. But still. I’d rather be in DC

This is true, but the Pulse line is changing that. ANd people can't drive for shyt, but in the DMV they drive like they are in a drag-race.

fam they literally holding on to thst confederate shyt - the major highway is Jefferson Davis highway - they monument avenue has stone wall Jackson and Robert e lee along with a confederate museum downtown. The only black statue (the great Arthur Ashe) has to be protected from vandalization when it was first erected . fukk Richmond

Wrong. I was there when the statue was erected....that's the James Brown statue in Augusta that kept getting vandalized. Not this one.

Explain further? Those tacky restaurants that say “NY Style” pizza are tacky as hell.

I’ve been to Richmond plenty of times, even lived there for a bit as a child and all I have to say is there’s absolutely nothing worth going there for :yeshrug:

That’s the city where my sister and brother got chased on the school bus by some skinheads.

You’re not missing anything by not going there.

I went to Richmond U about a decade ago and enjoyed my time in Richmond. I haven’t been back much since I graduated but I definitely didn’t have any of the issues people in this thread had. I would actually argue that RVA is an ideal city for young black students/professionals.

Richmond isn't big enough to sustain light rail, it would just be a net negative like it is in Norfolk. I think it coulda worked if it ran along Broad to Willow Lawn like Pulse does, because Pulse is successful, but now there really is nowhere else to put it...

Navy Hill gonna be a big deal and as soon as they confirm the new arena that area gonna change the game. The Navy Hill project is basically equivalent to how Southwest DC was redeveloped, its gonna work...

Didn’t Richmond have a high ass murder rate not even a decade ago. Looks like the crime dropped a lot.

Richmond one of the wildest cities in America historically. There's places in Richmond today (where I hung out in The Ward, Carver, Church Hill) that still have plenty of black people but have been gentrified and were literal murder zones 15+ years ago. The stories I heard were epic...

Even today, the areas it still gets crazy are off the charts....

You know I been all over the country bro, I've been in different hoods and cities specifically involved in criminal interactions. Richmond one of the most raw I've been around, after Memphis and Baltimore there isn't anywhere else off the top of my head I'd say is above it, and that's saying something considering the areas I've parked in...

Nah, cant allow this slander to happen.

100%...

The crazy thing is online I hear these things, then I moved to Norfolk/Virginia Beach. Definitely a higher level of racism them, the black culture is not as sophisticated or impactful on local politics and social culture. It's not weak out here but is definitely weaker than Rich...

Cats really get twisted off that Capital of the Confederacy shyt and run with it lol. The only reason the Confederate memorials are even able to stay open is because of white people from the burbs and outside the city, I have never even seen a single white person in Richmomd who supports it...

Living in Richmond it never even was a topic of conversation until some racist shyt like the Charleston shooting or Charlottesville shyt happened. Like literally nobody talked about it...

It's the Confederate statues these muhfukkas have to protect that get habitually marked up lmao...

Only thing I will say is it did seen for the most part that whites and blacks operate in separate bubbles in the city. It isn't that integrated, and this is one of the things I appreciated when I moved to The Beach, larger level of diversity overall and much more integration, it didn't feel like whites and blacks just happened to be in the same venues together...

White Richmond is scared to death of Black Richmond...

This nikka Young Lan is good peoples and has a name in the city on the producing side:

The scene is really connected with DC's underground, a lot of inter-production and black marketing between the two. I can't remember the names of a lot of artists in Rich, most of them weren't that great to me, but the scene is healthy and supports itself...

Nah don't hit and run Chelsea, you gonna have to say where yall lived at, because it's hard to believe this was in the city of Richmond. Skinheads afraid to bop thru Rich and keep that shyt out in Ashland or the Tri-Cities...
