Mediocre but he picked great singles, seems like he isn’t mediocre then because singles are one of the biggest things that need to be good for a rapper
There's garbage rappers with great singles, and all-timers who can't depend on singles at all...nah.
They triddash

Redman is a wack ass goof ball that cant fukk with Busta or Method Man or Ludacris

T.I. is a skinny hypocrite fake super thug with great singles on overall WEAK albums

Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jeezy, Gucci, Future >>> some fukking T.I

Oh another one was Mos Def. Again I thought his shyt was straight but just not some super amazing pure hip-hop shyt that others hyped him to be.

I read Prodigy book and then listened to the albums again and it connected before then I may not have been mature enough to get it

It wasn’t until late college and a bit afterwards and I was on my chill hip-hop wave (Curren$y, Dom, Wiz, K.R.I.T., DZA). I grew to appreciate his later work with Alc. Joints like this:

Really changed my stance. Afterwards, once “Give up the Goods” or “Hell on Earth” come up on the shuffle, I could vibe with the music much better.

Lil Wayne. I could never really get into him no matter how hard I tried.

I had The Block Is Hot on cassette in 99. I had lyrics from Hot Boyz Guerilla Warfare memorized. So I always liked Lil Wayne as a rapper. But 06-08 was a struggle for me when people were championing him as an elite lyricist who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Nas & Jay. I just never saw him in that light (still don’t honestly).

However I do think his work ethic, longevity, and overall impact on the masses & generation of rappers after him have solidified him as a Rap Icon. Like when the average person thinks “Rap” he’s one of first to come to mind.
