Same people who believe in the insurance angle also believe in the Illuminati and other nonsense.
Artists are independent contractors. Record companies can’t take out insurance policies directly on their lives. Lost profits on a half done album? OK maybe. Record company is having a big showcase and the artists dies resulting in lost profits from said show? OK. Both of those things are probably insurable. But it’s not going to pay out much.
Artists make much more money alive than they do dead. Unless they happen to reach legendary status and leave behind a catalogue like Pac or BIG. Which is like what? 0.0000000000002% of all artists?
People should focus on the fact that record companies sign these Brehs based on their beefs. And they encourage it because it sells records. And after a little advance they do nothing to get these Brehs out of the situations they’re in. And when the inevitable happens they was their hands clean and walk away. On to the next little one to exploit
Labels don’t need to literally have insurance out on these dudes in order to make gobs of money in their death. I’m not sure why people are taking the insurance thing literally.
First, labels profit from all the interconnected beefs. Ie Von died now the world finds out who “Muwop” is, everybody in OTF and FBG goes up. In this case, everybody in ‘4tk’, r2d2, all these lil crews will gain recognition. Labels profit
2nd, Insurance is a 1 time payoyt, that’s a drop in the bucket . What ISNT a 1 time payout is the money they make off them long term based on their death. Ie they just did a documentary on Xxxtentacion….So for a lower level rapper the labels do make more money off them dead, not only bc of the increased fame but also bc if you cut out the primary, don’t assume the money automatically goes to the ‘family’.
These are kids, they don’t have their royalties set up, they don’t have a “will”. They sign bad deals that fukk them over when their living, you don’t think there’s language in there that fukks them when their dead?
So if you understand how/why labels pick bc these dudes, you should understand how they benefit in death. We’re all saying the same thing just take away the literal interpretation of “insurance”.
