there are youngsters who ARE inspired by this shyt though :skip: im 21, i know

its just a change of time, and it's pretty much over for alot of people. this shyt released now is the younger generations classics. either you learn to appreciate new hip hop or its pretty much a wrap on new music, thats the dilemma im going thru now.

I agree with you and I just find it funny that the "age of epiphany" is getting younger and younger with less and less to show for what you have accumulated, music wise, before you arrived at it. Feel me?

For example our parents probably arrived at the "Damn, music now a days sucks" in their 40's or 50's and they had a wealth of artists and songs that they agree are certified classics in their collection. Physical or memory.

People around my age (21-25) are arriving at the "Damn, music now a days sucks" now and have less music to show for what is/was classic (excluding what can also be found in our parents collection prior to them feeling this way as well)

Just a thought...

Speak for yourself. Rap music is awesome right now. The days of everyone being a studio gangster are over. Rappers are focusing on their music instead of their image.

Huh?

It's about image more than ever now. And as far as the music goes how much skill does it take to do a million snare rolls and say [WOOP] between every two bars.

Even Kanye who is supposed to be this great innovator gotta dumb his shyt way down for the current market. "Lamborghini MERCAY/Yo chick she so THIRSTAY"

Really nikka?
:ld:

And the cold part about it, that's actually one of the BETTER songs on the radio.:snoop:

nah, rap is DIFFERENT. you got older and your generation moved out, either you appreciate the music now for what it is, or stick to your collection. It's not going back.

Yeah, but rap is a joke now. Seriously, nobody respects the music, it's all a money hustle. Get rich quick scheme.

Let me ask you this, and I am in no way a old head or about that boom nap sound, but 10 years from now, what could you possibly go back and listen to again. What will you want to go back and play again?

I mean, I have Jay, Nas, Kanye, Ghost, PAC, Outkast

And you--- you really going to go back and play some Drake, Tyga, Nicki, Travis Porter.... And I like most of those acts, but they are just going to be hot now but nothing that withstands time

:why::wtf:

We got Ross, an ex-CO claiming to be a drug kingpin.

We got Wayne, a 30+ year old skate boarder wearing women's pants claiming to be a hardcore Blood.

We got Drake, a wealthy Jewish child actor telling people "don't make me catch a body".

We got Nicki Minaj, a NY native that took her nick name from a Polish pedophile, speaks with a British accent, and tried to be the new Lady Gaga.

You been in a coma or something? I'm not saying I 100% agree with the thread starter but rap is 100% image driven right now....possibly moreso than any other time in history.

no it's not. The sales have dropped by millions. The consumer has stopped supporting.

Most opinions on rap music are sh1t nowadays on top of that
people have a RIDICULOUS amount of scrutiny for new artists.
You got dudes on average doing MORE than some greats have lyrically and
they still get shytted on JUST because they're new.

FVCK THAT.

Then that's a dumb ass way of thinking. I am an admitted old head, but I don't dislike someone just because they are new. I grew up during the age when talent mattered. Lyrical and/or the art of MCing. So I can't help but use that same measurement when I listen to artists today. If the person that I am listening too doesn't have any real talent, then they are wack to me. Period. It just so happens that MOST of what I hear from today's popular hip-hop artists falls into that catergory. Not because it's new, but because it's just wack. People seem to be willing to accept some wakness today. Especially when you pair it up with a nice beat, or catchy hook. It wasn't like that years ago. People would be like get that shyt outta here son!
You needed talent before, all you need now is a decent hook and you're on. The companys will force that shyt down our throats. And it usually has no substantial lyrical content either(which once again was how you used to be judged in hip-hop). Had I not grown up in a talent based era, my views would be totally different. But I didn't, so they aren't.
Don't get me wrong, I try to wade through all the busllshyt to get to the trully talented artists of the current era, but these days that search is getting more and more difficult as everyone is buying into this dumb it down movement.
fukking corporate America has fukked hip-hop and is fukking our youths without them even realizing it. We used to love her, but now we got her on the corner strung the fukk out. :pacspit:

I've become less interested more and more. There's some artists I still check for but overall I'm like :comeon: at most of the shyt that comes out. Maybe I'm getting old (turning 25 this year) but it's to the point now I'd rather go listen to old school soul or old school rap. The labels and other companies try to force us to buy into the hype of some of these artists when the majority of the music is awful. What's the state of this shyt when MMG is what we're supposed to accept as the hottest crew in the game? :yeshrug: The last really good years were 2008/2005.

This is what younger cats need to understand. Years ago, being a young head coming in the game meant you worked on your craft and studied the vets to get a shot at being a legend. That means you tried to IMPROVE on what came before. If your shyt was dope ex: Nasty Nas at age 18... then you get a co-sign from the vets.

shyt is upside down now. You got veterans trying to get co-signs from nikkas that shouldn't even be in the game, let alone caking up from it. The music is totally devalued. :smh:

Busta Rhymes signing to YMCMB is the most ridiculous shyt I ever heard of. This nikka is a LEGEND, and he's on the Young Money B team gettin shelved for moist nikkas like TYGA? :heh:
