JT: 29 PPG on 61.5% TSYea, that's always been Tatum's obstacle to overcome. He produces "top 5" numbers but often at top 15'ish efficiency. Jokic, Giannis SGA produce top 5 at top 5. Hell, this year Jokic produces top 1 at top 1. It's why JT will always be in mvp talks but is never voted a top 3 finalists and is more often outside of the top 5, no matter the team record.
It may be pure coincidental but your PER does have a real correlation to your MVP consideration if you look back at the last however many winners. Not the only factor but notable. To his credit, he started this season on fire/with something to prove but it's about maintaining it.
JT: 29 PPG on 61.5% TS
SGA: 30 PPG on 61.4% TS
Not even ESPN takes PER seriously anymoreJT: 24.6 PER
SGA: 28 PER
2023-2024
JT: 22.3 PER (14th)
SGA: 29.3 PER (3rd)
Not only is it a useless stat, but it is egregiously mislabeled lol. It has almost nothing to do with scoring "efficiency".
Thanks for contributing
That's just because it goes against your "guy". I get itNot only is it a useless stat, but it is egregiously mislabeled lol. It has almost nothing to do with scoring "efficiency".
It is an outdated advanced stat (if you really want to call that basic ass boxscore formula "advanced") that has basically been abandoned by everyone (including ESPN itself) in favor of more comprehensive metrics. That's just because it goes against your "guy". I get it
It's all good. Appreciate the insight
And they wouldn't be by the end of the season, just like several ppg leaders 14 games into the season wouldn't be by end of the season...but you already knew that. Not to mention putting up numbers while maintaining elite efficiency was the point, not one without the other. It is an outdated advanced stat (if you really want to call that basic ass boxscore formula "advanced") that has basically been abandoned by everyone (including ESPN itself) in favor of more comprehensive metrics.
PER currently has Daniel Gafford, Robert Williams, and Ty Jerome in the Top 10
You still think PER is a scoring efficiency stat? Yikes. You don't even know what the stats you're citing even measure, let alone whether or not they matterAnd they wouldn't be by the end of the season, just like several ppg leaders 14 games into the season wouldn't be by end of the season...but you already knew that. But again, you're on your Celtic pride stan shtick and i got no problem with that. But save it for Laker and Knick fans. I'm not really interested. It's all good tho.
