Pretty good doubleheader tonight...Nuggets × Sixers and Thunder × Clippers.

We get that Jokic vs. Embiid matchup.
Did the NBA just randomly decide to show Wed games on ABC? It does not seem to make any sense since theyre showing a 7:30 ESPN game as well. This seems to be just random. What would have made sense is a 7:00 ABC game and a 9:30 ABC game. Why would you compete against yourself for ratings
I believe I recall the NBA announcing during the off-season that they were going to expand ABC games to Wednesday nights rather than just on Saturdays and Sundays.

I do think having a game on ESPN and another on ABC (some starting a half hour before the other) is an odd decision but it makes sense. Some people don't have cable/satellite TV and maybe don't pay for streaming so it gives them the chance to see games but also boosts the league's TV ratings.

they're literally in no rush and nba media coverage loves saying young teams need to make a trade immediately or they're doomed.
agreed, noone was expecting minnesota and okc to be the top 2 teams in the west halfway through the season either. theyre literally playing as good as any team in the league, let it ride out.

I honestly dont understand you and your grips sometimes. IIRC, you are the main one who just complains about games on too late, games on too early, bad schedule here, etc. And most of them dont make any sense.

Also, people complain about not enough games on TV (and network TV) and then ABC puts on more games on TV, and still complaining.

To answer the question- no, it is a terrible idea to have a 7pm and 9:30pm regular season weekday game on. Its a weeknight, so people arent staying up to watch a 1/82 game on a Wednesday at midnight, and cut out their late local 11pm news on the eastern and central time zones.

The only reason the 8:30 games are even happening is because of the writers strike and they needed to fill the schedule. Game at 8:30, should be done by 11pm news.

The NBA isnt getting random ratings out the blue, so people who like basketball will watch, and who dont, wont.

Disney made that call during the actor's and writer's strike. Gotta show something on ABC if you don't have any shows.

I used to believe that was the proper strategy, but the actual big market teams and superstar players always team up every year in unexpected places. So even if you come back with the same team and have internal development you can't account for how much the league changes each year. 2nd round exit is the expectation for any team without multiple elite players. Swing for the fence now and maybe next season you'll be a legit conference finalists.
