It's been interesting how fluid the criteria can be. For example,

2005:
Nash best* player on the best regular season team
62 win suns
15.5/11/3 with a 22 PER
MVP winner

2006:
Billups best player on the best regular season team
64 win Pistons
18.5/8.6/3 with a 23.4 PER
5th place in MVP votes :/

Then, take Tatum's 2023 campaign so far... career year and front runner in that recent ESPN straw poll.. but if Boston ain't gonna be the #1 seed, what's the argument for him when 4 other guys score more (including Embiid and Giannis), and 10 others have higher PERs/statistically better seasons (including Embiid and Giannis)?
