Picking a random year, 24 players had a 40+ point game in 2005-06. Among those players are Mike Bibby, Jason Richardson, Michael Redd, Rashard Lewis, Richard Jefferson, Mike Miller, Gerald Wallace, Charlie Villanueva, Rip Hamilton.

Picking another random year, 27 players had a 40+ point game in 1995-96. Among those players are Juwan Howard, Acie Earl, Vernon Maxwell, Tracy Murray, Cliff Robinson, Bobby Phills, Todd Day, Rik Smits, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Robert Horry.

Now sure, you can say that the pace, 3pt attempt rate and defensive rule changes has made scoring going up. But at no point in NBA history has a player ever had to be some type of superstar or top 10-15 player to put up big numbers in a game. To believe otherwise is revisionist history. And that also doesn’t mean that any player that goes off today only did it because the league is “watered down”.

Adrian Dantley was giving you KD numbers for 7 years there in Utah and no one today knows who he is and he was never considered best in the league or even close. Pace mostly impacts assists and rebounds and tertiary players.

Let's keep it real though. Its FAR easier to score in today's league. Thats why folks think its watered down. Jaylen is good, but in general you're seeing alot of average dudes put up superstar stat lines. 40 point games used to mean something. You could feel the difficulty now its like whatever.
That’s because of your basketball frame of reference in the dead ball era.

The game in the 60’s and 80’s and into the early 90’s was played with pace and scoring. It’s not watered down what it is watered down from exactly? What you are seeing is a younger, faster league with more emphasis on P&R play and shooting.

A watered down league is what you had 15-20 years ago with big man stiffs with no skill on team benches and a bunch of teams carried by one man and the average age of players pushing 30 because of a bunch of old relics being in the league.

Jaylen Brown is a monster now his shooting, balance, footwork, ball handling have all improved and he been had size and athleticism. He be in the gym with T-Mac and it’s all coming together.

When I say watered down league I'm not talking about the talent, im talking about how the game is played and officiated. Physical tools are nowhere as important. Isolation skills aren't that important for the average player. You can run off screens and drop 40 these days, it was much more difficult to do that back in the day. Open looks are much more readily available as well.

Then why can't your elite prospect, "future all star" Lonzo Ball score at all? With your impeccable basketball expertise, you saw an elite player in him, didn't you? Why isn't he thriving in such as easy era to score? :jbhmm:

I never said Lonzo would be an all-star or prolific scorer. I said julius randle would be an all-star and that brandon Ingram would be a superstar

:jbhmm:

lonzo and ingram are both future stars

Lonzo is incredible

I could see lonzo being a trancendent talent for the Lakers or suns

he's cant shoot like lonzo, people forget Lonzo was an ELITE shooter in college

I gurantee Lonzo will have a better season. Ben a great talent but he cant run the show Lonzo. Dude couldnt even get into the NCAA tourney. The only thing he got on Zo is rebounding and being a better hater.

this Lonzo team, we not building around bron ball :hhh:

Philly would be a better team with lonzo

I don't like it for basketball reasons. He's gonna be 34 and we got Zo and Ingram. My main concern is Bron ball, we got Lonzo we don't need that. I seriously doubt he'd be willing to play off ball

Its a fan vote, and Lonzo is already a superstar as far as popularity is concerned. He puts up good numbers, its a real possibility. Remember how Kobe made it coming off the bench...

I don't know why this is some indictment of the Lakers, he been saying he would stay for awhile now, plus the Lakers just drafted lonzo. The hope is Zo and Ingram becoming stars and building around them, which is definitely possible

Zo is the best PG I've seen since Chris paul

Nah man zo probably the most important piece on the team when you consider defense. Literally a game changer and the stats back it up. You can’t shyt on a 22 year for not being a leader and give bron and the vets a pass for even worse leadership. Lavar and zo are two completely different people, it’s outlandish to expect zo to come out and clarify every thing Lavar says. The young cats obviously all fukk with each other

:ohhh:

The dude didn't really get better. I was projecting his career, I thought he would be running the team but he ended playing with a superior playmaker in Bron then got traded to a team he doesn't fit on. To be honest I don't know what team he fits on but he needs to be running-and-gunning. :yeshrug:I can admit I was wrong about predictions. But I was spot on with B.I.
