Someone's gotta explain this PER shyt to me. How is Steph's current PER 25.6 and his 2015-16 season PER was 31.5...and his stats are damn near identical. Slightly lower FG/3PT% and steals is one per game lower.
Pace, minutes, possessions, and overall league performance all impact it. The '21 Warriors play 4 possessions faster than it did in '16, the league is like 6 possessions faster and the overall league-performance is better now too. So by PER metrics, Steph's performance in the context of today's league isn't as valuable as it was in 2016.
Also, Curry's averaging nearly one less assist per game than he did that year while averaging the same amount of turnovers. TO's are a huge negative impact on the PER formula. And he's also averaging 1 less steal - and steals are a big cheat code for high PER.
A similar thing happens with 80s cats - because of the fast pace and gaudy offensive numbers, guys like Larry Bird are undervalued by PER
