Former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett posted on his Instagram on Thursday that he won’t be pursuing the purchase of the team.

In July 2020, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said a condition to selling the team he’s owned for 26 years is that whoever buys the franchise has to keep it in Minnesota. That same month, Garnett, who played 14 seasons in Minnesota, was open on social media about his desire to buy the team.

Taylor told The Athletic on Thursday, however, that Garnett never contacted him or said he was interested in buying the team.

“Sooo just got the news that this process in trying to acquire the TWOLVES IS OVER for me and my group…,” Garnett posted in his Instagram story on Thursday. “Thx Glen for being yourself n what I Kno you to be!!! GOOD LUCK n aww the best with WHAT WE BUILT.”

Garnett also said in the post that he wasn’t hurt but disappointed and that it’s time to focus on other places. He included the hashtags #seattle #vegas, cities that have been thrown around as potential expansion destinations for the NBA.

“Crazy that some of these special players that helped build these fuxin Franchises like a home but can never own them, only rent them…GTFOH ISHHH IS A JOKE,” Garnett wrote.
