His situation is degenerative. He’s on borrowed borrowed time. I can never see him playing over 70 games more than once or twice for the rest of his career
I hear you guys, but is his contract degenerative?
Like it or not, this is a business and the TV revenue is a large part of why the contract values have ballooned over the past few years. One of the leagues premier stars sitting out in marque matches on the national TV schedule is bad for the league (as a business). And this early in the season it feels (to me) like a ridiculously soft move.
Aren't there other ways to limit playing time? Have players sit out practices? Limit minutes (in game)?
Teams are going to fu*k around and force the league to implement policies against this. How are these guys going to feel when there's a set number of games required to sit out for each injury? "Have a sprained finger? That's 2-4 games minimum that you'll sit until it's 'healed'."
Or teams could work rest games into their deal: "if you need 20 rest games a season (25% of the season), then our offer will be 25% less $$ than a max offer could be".
With the China issue creating issues with the league financially, I expect the NBA will do something to limit any financial exposure they may have with their TV deal. I'm betting we're going to see rules put in place.
And BTW, I didn't like it when the Dubs sat out players either...but KL is taking this sh*t to new heights (lows).
