Why the NBA Could (and Should) Look More Like the World Cup

I’ve been giving this World Cup format some thought, and the more I think about it, it makes the absolute most sense. Don’t have to bring back all the teams, just go with top 20. Play group stage rounds, then top 2 from each go to the normal playoff series. It incentives more teams near the 20 range to keep playing. It adds way more intrigue to the first round which usually only has one good series, whereas in this format even the top seeds play a good team or two in the group stage. And we see this format works for soccer as far as crowning a champion. One thing people wouldn’t like is this is different from the traditional format, but change isn’t always a bad thing. I like it.

I'm with it. Everyone is always going to look at this season differently than others anyways, so why not just do something different to finish it

ACL’s take a year to heal right? It’s June and the nba isn’t back for at least a month or two. What’s the chances Boogie signs with a competitor to finish the season and possibly a playoff run? He was injured in August so looking at around Septemberish for him to get in game shape. Even if he only gives you 10 games in the playoffs that’s a lot, Thoughts?
