The Phoenix Suns are a glorious mess.
Wednesday started with Suns interim general manager James Jones defending the franchise after an
unfavorable report from Adrian Wojnarowski. It ended with Jones showing up to a Phoenix grocery store in the middle of the night because Josh Jackson skipped an advertised public appearance.
The solution: Free beer.
This could only happen to the Suns.
Jackson was scheduled to make an appearance at the Fry’s grocery store on 20th and Camelback from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It was a sponsored autograph signing with Dos Equis called Fiesta De Los Suns. The second-year forward from Kansas was a no-show to the event.
The Suns even tweeted (and
later deleted!) a video thanking fans for showing up to the event before it was clear that Jackson wasn’t coming at all. Here’s a reposted look at the tweet.

Fans eventually grew disgruntled after a couple hours of waiting, and that was when Jones arrived at the grocery store to tell fans that Jackson wasn’t coming.
Why is Josh Jackson not here yet??? Come on bro

The scene was described via
Reddit. Jones bought fans beer as an apology, which in turn created massive lines of people wanting free beer:
Not a basketball fan but WTF just happened. I got to Fry’s and there is a line outside the store and not a single parking spot. There was some debacle I guess they were late and so the Suns?? Paid for free beer for everybody… everyone is grabbing 12 packs and going to the register for “beer only”. Yea free Heineken and Dos Eqis. I only got a snippet of info while I was checking out, so I went back in and went to get my free beer and I was told they closed the tab already. The place looked like a house party with everyone varying around their case of beer. What a cluster

@j_josh11 isn't coming… Explained we now get mailed autograph, tickets, and free beer.

While free beer wouldn’t have helped the disappointed kids who showed up to see Jackson, at least Jones tried his best with crisis management. I commend the effort from the interim GM.
So, where was Jackson during all of this? If his Instagram Story was any indication, Jackson was celebrating a friend’s birthday at Fogo de Chão at the time of his autograph signing. The restaurant is 10 miles away from the grocery store.
Fans instead had to settle for a photo with three-time NBA champion James Jones.
Yo James Jones, trade Josh Jackson
