A franchise like Pelicans have no problem being the 6-8 seed for the next 5 years. At the end of the day it's a business, this is why Clippers didn't blow it up till Chris Paul got up and left. Franchises like that haven't had any successes and are fine with this type of success. They should only worry when AD wants to get up and leave. The Pelicans have three options:
1.Sign Cousins,and be a 6-10 seed for the next 5 years.
2.Trade Cousins, and get below market value in return.
3.Trade AD,and get a kings ransom.
Option 1:The contracts of AD,Cousins, and Holiday will handcuffed NO for the next 5 years. What good is having a "Big 3" if the rest of your team is garbage ?
Option 2:NO will not get fair market value for D.Cousins.He's a 35 million dollar per year FA with a checkered history.
Option 3:NO can get back a kings ransom for AD....Develop the draft picks/young players that they get in a trade ......Then sign/trade for one or two high price players when the franchise is ready to compete for a title.
The next 4-5 years belong to GS...NO should use that time to rebuild their franchise.......They also run the risk of AD asking for a trade which will only lower his value.
This. They just need to figure out how to land decent depth on a discountnone of that you typed means a damn thing. there is no way that franchise trades away AD this year.
They had no choice. If they had cap, it would have made sense. They would love to get someone like Evan F and Bazemore but they don't really have anything to offer that would appeal to any teamA franchise like Pelicans have no problem being the 6-8 seed for the next 5 years. IMO they should have never signed Jru Holiday to that contract, they should still try to trade him and get better wing players
