You better than this. He's missed three games before tonight. The Spurs went against Brooklyn, Phoenix, and the Blazers without Lillard. Any team would with a decent system would put up great defensive numbers facing that competition.
Here's the problem with this:
I. Brooklyn just put up 143 points against the Pelicans (who are a top-10 defense) - they're not void of talent
II. Both Phoenix and T'Blazers without Dame aren't void of offensive talent as well
III. There were a few posters (whom my post is talking about) that made it seem the Spurs' defense lives and dies because of Kawhi. Hell somebody even said that only 10% of the Spurs roster plays defense, and that Kawhi is the one who's trying to keep the rest of the team afloat on that end. Now if that and similar rhetoric were to be true, you'd see it IMMEDIATELY when Kawhi didn't play; that supposed effect and impact he has would be evident in the games he doesn't play in - no matter who the competition is. But it's not. They're still a damn good defensive team without him (even with Pau and Parker are playing).
This is not me saying that Kawhi isn't one of, if not the best perimeter defender in the league. This is not me saying that Kawhi isn't the Spurs best defender. This is me saying that his defensive impact is overstated and the reasons for why the team has a subpar DRTG when he's on court isn't all because of the players that he plays with.
