These guys on open court are sounding so stupid when it comes to analytics in basketball. I don't know wtf Isiah is talking about. Video games?

no. they were absolutely right. analytics is just an attempt by the nerds to try and get into basketball. they lack the knowledge of actually playing the game from the time they were kids, then going to high school, college, and the pros. living and breathing basketball for damn near their entire lives.

I think what they said on open court was true. Its easy for players to manipulate the stat sheet. Hell we've had confirmation from Kevin Durant and LeBron James on this. That they intentionally pass up good looks they would normally take if they're FG% is lacking that game.

I'll trust the basketball knowledge of cats who have been playing, coaching, or involved in basketball for 30 years over some MIT nerds who were cut from their high school JV teams.

Watch Perkins still start :mjlol:

:mjcry:

He pretty much has to though because he's so fukking terrible. Perk starting can kind of be covered with KD, Russy, & Ibaka. Perk off the bench with Reggie, Lamb, Morrow, & Nick/PJ3 would be a disaster. Although with KD out for the start of the season Perk is going to hurt every lineup.

what they say?

watch the vid I posted right after that post. It was pretty funny IMO.

Speaking of Exum, he looking like he got a shot :ohhh:

A set shot anyway, but it's there :yeshrug:

He looks like a natural passer though, I can see his future as a game manager but nothing too major yet. A guy who's role on the team isn't reflected by his stats

Analytics are useful because eyewitness accounts aren't always very reliable and people tend to get caught up more in flare than effectiveness. You got people still thinking Lebron isn't good in the post despite being disgustingly effecient and overpowering.

Analytics are a tool, just like anything else. Best used in context.

ur right. a random nikka who watches a couple of games here or there isn't reliable. but nba coaches and scouts that watch millions of hours of game tape is alot more reliable than some stat geek just mashing numbers at his desk.

when analytics takes over a team like the Grizzlies, its a problem. when you have dudes like John Hollinger telling established NBA coaches like Lionel Hollins how to do his job, that is a problem.

I got no problem with the information analytics provides. I got a problem when these dudes who never played a second of ball in their lives try to tell dudes who have been in the game for decades how to do their jobs.

remember the new coach for the grizzlies almost quit last year cause he couldn't take how much meddling the analytically driven front office had on his coaching strageties.
