What's going to change though? You can't really take away what he's doing, and he should get better in time as he learns how to play without picking up fouls, right now dude is extremely foul prone.

It's a small sample size, but he's a big man scoring / rebounding / blocking shots primarily because he's very athletic and big. Blount had been in the league years before you got shafted by him, and his numbers weren't as good as Whitesides starting numbers are right now.

At bare minimum he's going to be on par with DeAndre Jordan.

Its less about his ability and more about me finding it hard to believe that a team would offer him the max. I just dont see it. He'd need to finish out this year the same way as he's been playing now and then improve offensively next year. Look at Big Al's contract with Charlotte..even with how Whiteside is playing now, I dont think it could be said that he is worthy right now of a contract larger than what Big Al got then.

FWIW..Blount had a stretch like this..I think he had a couple 20/20 games and had a jumpshot too. He was much older and a journeyman yes..but I see similarities in terms of wild short term success. Whiteside will always show more effort and be more valuable than Blount though..and is more likely to sustain something close to this than he was...but, remember, he is playing on a mediocre team, with the paint all to himself and without any attention from other team defenses. He has been a clean up man and a superlative defender but thats not a max guy.

Jordan gets more $ than him IMO. Similar roles but Jordan is more certified and has shown consistent improvement...this is meteoric by Whiteside and has to be met with some skepticism for the long term as of now.

The Heat have him locked up for 2 seasons, he'll be a RFA at the end of next year, he'll get a max deal if he keeps this type of play up, especially since they could potentially lock him into the old max.

I see people saying it's the Jeremy Lin shyt, but there's not much you can stop that he's having success at. 7'0" 265lbs, athletic and hungry, you can't really bottle that up like how Lin got exposed.
Max? :dahell:

Can dude play a full NBA season and the scouting be out on him?

Al Jefferson was 29 and is noted as a poor defender, not really a fair comparison, you're underestimating just how crazy NBA gms go over athletic big men that can protect the paint. I said he'd need to keep up this level of play throughout next year, right now he's essentially DeAndre Jordan, and DJ is going to get a max more than likely, and it should be pointed out that Whiteside has a better feel for the game on offense than Jordan.

Blount never had a stretch like this, he never put up monster numbers against quality centers, what Whiteside has done has come against Bogut, Tyson Chandler, DeAndre, Pau/Noah/Gibson. He's had absolutely monstrous games against good competition, and he's having a positive affect on the Heat defense, this is not the same as Blount :yeshrug:

I already said he'd need to keep up this level of play throughout next season as well. If he does he'd get a max because he'd be right there with DeAndre Jordan...

Yes, if he keeps posting 16/16 and 16/24 games through next season he'd get a max.

He's a defensive big, what scouting report is there for him?

Hassan Whiteside report:
- Stop him from being 7 feet tall
- Shorten his arm length
- Hope his vertical decreases
- Tell him he's looking fat so he drops 25lbs
- Put concrete in shoes

There's really no point in scouting reports on the type of player Whiteside is. A 7'0" 265lbs athletic hustle big :yeshrug: you don't need to scout them, you need someone bigger and more athletic to take away from what he is good at.

I hear you..but there are a bunch of bigs who got dough that arent big rim protectors. there was and is a school of thought that the "rim protecting big" can/should be a guy on a cheap contract and are somewhat interchangeable, unless they are DPOY type guys. that has been changing a bit, specifically when there is youth involved so i get what you are saying. im sure there would be a bidding war and he'd get a bunch of $ but i dont know if it be a bunch of teams involved at whatever price necessary..i think its more often to be a handful of teams enamored with the rest saying 'nah, no chance at over 9-10mil'. Al wasnt good on defense but the main concern with him is his ankles/health. He's improved a little defensively...and is gonna get a raise compared to his last deal this off-season. I just think there will be too much skepticism with Whiteside even if he stays close to this pace for the rest of the year and plays well next year...whether that skepticism is warranted or not is a different story. Id be surprised if Whiteside gets the same or more dough than Al or DJ.

I hate Blount too much to dig up the box scores but you are probably right on that since big guys in the East at that time weren't all that great.

I suppose but I dont see him doing this the rest of this season AND next season. the numbers are too ridiculous
