i'm not making it it out to be a simple pass.., i always figured an extra move after pass isn't an assist.

He caught the pass in stride, took a dribble and scored a layup. He didn't do any elaborate move after the catch. Dude shot a layup basically.

It's no different than people in Europe knowing about some insanely good 11 year old futbol player in the jungles of Colombia. This is why we will continue to be the best at basketball

There's not much else a 6'7" or 6'10" 12 year old is going to be known for, being that tall is rare and they will always be funneled towards Gods chosen game .
