the "pure" pg is long gone. There's only one Chris Paul everyone else these days is a undersized 2 masquerading as a pg.
The NBA is too versatile these days. Hell, so is college Basketball at the highest level. The responsibility on the average player has never been higher. When I played, it was all about the system and knowing over 100 plays and variations but now, coaches require a lot more. We see bigs shooting more, we see team defense more so than just zone defense with a center just sitting in the paint. The game is a lot different and you are seeing freshman struggle more than ever to completely adjust in terms of impact.

The biggest issue is Dook staff trying to run a Team USA 2.0 type program. They are doing a horrible job of development up there and it's really evident in their big man play. Whatever these kids show up with, is what they're leaving with. Everybody out there got the green light, nobody wanna do grunt work, and he failed to recruit for needs (true pg) instead of wants. There's no reason Javin supposed to have that scholarship when you have a gaping hole at pg. This the 2nd year he got caught with his pants down had Thorton not reclassified. I just saw Luke Maye, a preferred walkon, give UNC something (15 rebs) against that FSU front line while Jeter, Giles, and Bolden looked like they didn't belong. Beating people with individual perimeter play only goes so far in college cause everybody can't shoot. Rebounding and defense gets you further and that's Dook's weakness.
As a Duke fan, I 100% agree. Since HS teams and AAU teams are doing a much better job of coaching, Duke just alter their intangibles and BBIQ style to a more USA Basketball 2.0 style where they are well trained but their intangibles is just okay, their BBIQ is decent, just playing off of talent. The last five players they put into the NBA are lacking the fundamentals and intangibles that Duke prospects normally have at the next level. Even the ones who just spend one season in Durham.

It works when we have a Winslow to go with Okafor but doesn't with some others. I am questioning is this really working. I am more hopeful for next year. While Carter and Trent isn't the talent that Giles and Tatum are, they are far better team Basketball players and both have high intangibles.

At one time, Duke used to really develop players...but that was a different time.

And let's not act like Duke players have had major pro success historically. :mjlol:

K developed strong collegians... now he might just be outta his element with the shift to embracing this new wave. Maybe that's partly why he resisted for so long.

I give K 2-3 more years at Duke, tops. He's gonna call it a day soon.

Y'all need to start asking with more urgency: Who should be his replacement?

There's no one to set up others on that team breh. Others have that guy. I mean they put Jayson Tatum on ball their last game breh. That says it all. Thornton probably should've stayed.

Coach K was set on having Frank Jackson turn into a PG out of nowhere and playing him over Derryck Thornton. That plan back fired on him.

I'm at the Hoophall Classic right now, but this caught my eye as I'm watching Carter play right now. You're right and wrong. Giles is a team player (both him and Giles played for Team CP3), but he's just not there yet. People want to call him a bust but that's not fair at all. Tatum regardless of playing Team USA his entire HS career, is a chuck. No sugarcoat. He might be worse than Austin Rivers when it comes to chucking.

Carter and Trent, that I agree. Trent is arguably the top SG ( between him and Sexton imo, Diallo behind both) and he's very willing to pass the ball. Him and Carter fits Duke to a glove. You have to give K props. This dude stay getting package deals. Tyus and Okafor(bff's), Winslow joined in. Tatum and Giles (bff's) Carter and Trent ( bff's) fukking Duke, that's impressive I'll give him that. With Matt Coleman at Texas, K better go all in Trevon Duval. If that happens, either Frank Jackson plays his natural 2 position or he's out. Duval starting.

:francis: Creighton's final four hopes just ended. Maurice Watson is gone for the season.

Sexton is a PG. Lonnie Walker, Diallo and Troy Brown are better than Trent.

Yall are pretty hard on Bolden. He should have never been thought of as 1 and done but most bigmen have delayed development and take YEARS before we know what they truly are.

I'm not really hating on dude, I've just never been a fan. My issue is with the dudes that were telling me he was a lottery pick in the first place, and acting like I was crazy for ranking Udoka over him.

I don't know how he was in that discussion in the first place.
