Not thinking about casting, thinking about writing and direction. As much as I love Tango and Cash, it had so so so many issues behind the scenes that clearly showed up in the final product. Tonally its all off, not all of the jokes hit, the logic in the story doesn't stand up once you examine it with any sort of brain power, and clearly Stallone's ego got in the way. It's a great story idea that could've been a lot better with less ego and a steady hand behind the camera and a focused script

Again, I'm not saying they were bad. I'm saying the film itself is flawed as hell. I love it to death, will watch it any day of the week, but objectively, it's got a lot of issues lol. A remake in theory could cure those issues and its issues start with the script. As much as I love Sly, this was in the middle of his Diva phase and he screwed that movie. It works because of their chemistry so if you got a better script, less ego, and a director with the full backing of the studio without his lead actor breathing down his neck, all you need at that point is two actors who have great chemistry together. Easier said than done but not impossible

Wasn't the first movie deeper than the novel?
As long as they don't try to make it an action movie and focus on ptsd they should be okay.
