Was it a flood or a fire? :patrice:
I never heard anything about a fire...I heard that there were multiple floods. What I've read is that one wiped out the OG Tical (+ other tracks) and they had to rush it to get it in by the label's deadline (that's why it doesn't hold up to the other solo albums in that era). A separate flood took out Deck's solo album.

The flood that took out Deck's album is covered in the series if you've seen that (every Wu fan should). Deck went through lengths to have the discs restored, and started producing his own tracks (Let Me At Them for example) b/c RZA had to re-prioritize his efforts to meet label deadlines for Dirty, Rae & GZA. Unfortunately for Deck, he didn't have the name recognition or star power that Dirty, Rae & GZA had at the time. Hip-Hop was robbed of his album.

Here's Strums remixing of Uncontrolled Substance to sound more RZA-ish/1995-ish...

Also in the flood, the mic settings RZA had pre-programmed for Ghost were destroyed which is why his voice sounds a little different on Ironman compared to OB4CL, and other previous appearances.

RZA and Deck kind of laugh all this off now, but Deck's career was permanently altered by the flood(s), and Meth was robbed of having a true 5 mic classic in the same breath as LS or OB4CL...

That shyt sucks. Because I have tried to like Tical but it's just not good to me. Would love to hear what the og sounded like. Especially RZA'S classic sound in the time period

Need RZA to open that vault...I know he's sitting on stuff from 93-97 that are bangers. Even half completed beats would be worth hearing. He just doesn't need to do that now, he can sit on that, or let his kids pull that move to make bread.
Rza just sold a bunch of his og equiptment. One of his machines went for 70k

A demo tape featuring rare remixes and songs we never got in full (illusions of love, illusions of love (rns remix)) etc) just sold for like 12k. Hopefully whoever bought rips those as to backup the tape incase of wear n tear.

Man tical was the hottest wu album in real life time. I dont understand how people shyt on it. I hadnt listened to it in years and did recently. It has the best drums/bass/flows of any wu album.

They saw huge money on the back end though. They had to wait until like '95 but they saw the payoff from that initial $60K. They were comfortable...RZA, Uey and a couple others all said this.

Tical is hit or miss for me...sometimes I really do enjoy it and I think to myself I'm tripping for not liking it that much. But other times I listen and I'm just disappointed bc it just doesn't hold up to the other solos. Return to the 36 Chambers BLOWS Tical out of the water, let alone CL, LS, Ironman.

There are def some bangers...What the Blodclot is vintage Wu, PLO Style is a banger, Meth vs. Chef, I Get My Thang In Action, etc. are all fire. But there is something just off and rushed with it. The lo-fi-ness is cool, but sometimes just sounds too muffled and bland. RZA's production quality advanced to God-tier in 95. He was still discovering his post-36 Chambers sound in 94.

Tical and Murda Muzik are both albums that are like this for me...I want to like them but in the end they're just 4 mic albums that aren't up to par of their peers.
