I don't think that's right.

Ghost and Rae didn't make it to the top of the pile until after 36 Chambers took the world by storm.

And even now, I'd say Ghost is top Wu member but Rae is more middle of the pack.

GFK is my favorite member of the clan but his performance on 36 chambers isn't what did it for me. he got outshined on every track.

GFK. Redman. Sean P. 3K.

Examples of MCs that got exponentially better as they went along.

On 36 Chambers I hardly knew who was who besides ODB and Meth. SOHH yes. GFK didn't do anything outstanding on that first album.

I say all that to say: every niqqa around my way was mesmerized by 36. Even street niqqas. As well as squares and everyone else.

Thread title don't ring true

while we're on topic, I have a love-hate relationship with the street mentality.

On one hand, real hip hop is so intertwined with the streets that one can never hate on the streets. A lot of golden era rappers wouldn't exist if it wasn't for some street dude funding their demos or giving them shows etc. The whole look of rappers for the longest period came from the fashion street nikkas were rocking. Even the hard attitude and personalities. Hip hop as we know it owes a lot to the streets.

On the other hand, some street dudes are the dumbest and most backward nikkas in the world. And have no creativity. To them, if it aint about bussin guns, it's irrelevant. which is stupid as fukk, because hip hop was created specifically for people to get out of the streets and put their minds to other shyt.

I remember some comment on Youtube about Ghostface's "Childs Play". A dude was saying he thought the song was aight, but he wished Ghost had used to beat to talk about street shyt instead. Like that beat is perfect for talking about cooking and stickups. And I'm thinking: 'what?!'

No wonder the suburbs got bored of the street shyt.

Raekwon was in Cream and Can’t it Be All so Simple I mean he was a frontman of the group as well. Once Cuban Linx dropped he held it down and we really started to learn Ghost.

My cousin was heavy in the streets and he used to clown me because I loved the essence and elements of hip hop.

I was helping him move and we were breaking down cardboard boxes in his garage. He asked me "Do you wanna take some of these boxes so you and yo homeboys can breakdance on?"
