Pretty much. He also ignores the multitude of American studies showing adverse side effects and so on. They also ignore the fact that a circumcision can be done as an adult, under a person's OWN consent.

But anyway, that's for another thread. I think even we that are against circumcision knows the difference between a medical procedure done in a medical and sanitary setting as opposed to a cult leader touching a child's genitals, mutilating it, and sometimes sucking the blood of the infant's penis because a man supposedly made a covenant with a god in the desert thousands of years ago. Two entirely different worlds.

Agree 100%. I support letting the child pick his own fate when the time is right. Its his body to do whatever he wants with it.

Oh, the medical community has declared that male circumcisions are actually beneficial, btw.......

http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/27/health/circumcision-policy/

The AAP (American Association of Pediatricians) also says the benefits of circumcision outweigh the risks, but the decision should be made by the parents (not the Gov't.) to have the procedure done or not, and it is not a requirement. It shouldn't be 'routine'.

that's a political cop out by the AAP
those fukking cowards

That's fine. I was just adding context to your statement, because the way you posted the AAP's position was an appeal to authority, and I wanted to clarify that it was misleading to suggest that that particular authority represented a majority opinion on the matter in developed nations.

I have no interest in trying to convince any individual to get or not get circumcised. My main political stance on the matter is the same as the AAP's- I don't think it should be banned or anything, but I also don't think it should be a de facto, routine procedure recommended by any official institutions. I also don't necessarily think parents should be able to decide to have their kids circumcised outside of the context of medical problems. I'd prefer if people got to make the decisions themselves.

I totally agree
although I do think the medical community has a responsibility to weigh in such matters

I see what you're saying, but either a doctor's office or a hospital is a whole context, not just an individual. They have more people, more resources, more tech, etc. For me, at least, that outweighs.

More resources, more doctors, more tech, more opportunities to fukk up.

agreed. a rabbi with a knife is clearly a better choice for a circumcision than a fully staffed medical team that has ample access to tech and medical resources that might save a life during complications from the procedure.

That's not even remotely my position.

Also, when do people die from procedural complications in circumcisions?

What tech and medical resources would be necessary? Last time I heard about tech being involved in circumcision, it was hospital staff who used an electronic device and burned a kids penis off. Its cool though, thankfully their millions of dollars of funding, ample access to tech and medical resources were able to do absolutely nothing.
