Both influential as hell tho with Kelly there’s no Brown, Trey Songz, etc

Without D Angelo there is now Maxwell, Badu, hell even Weeknd and these plethora of alt moody R&B artist

Why you folk acting like D'Angelo's brand of music has never been done before. So now you dudes are going so far as to say he created that brand of soul just so you guys can generate some type of argument that he's better than the most influential and prolific R&B artist of the past 30 plus years?

D'Angelo was influenced by greats like Marvin, Prince, Curtis, Jimi, etc.. but he took their influence to create something great as well that influenced others after him.

And R. Kelly didn't? Stop it. You can say that about any dope artist. I just don't understand why you dudes in here acting like he's the father of that style of music.

I never said R. Kelly didn't, but I feel like you sitting here trying really hard to discredit D'Angelo. :snoop:

:dwillhuh:

Post where I discredited D'Angelo?

I've BEEN saying that D'Angelo is dope.

He's just not on R. Kelly's level. Not close.

This like comparing T-Mac to Jordan.

I didn’t say he created anything. I said he brought that genre of music to the forefront, especially in America. Maxwell, Badu, Hill all came after Brown Sugar and found success. Nobody is original. But D’Angelo was unique when he first dropped. Can’t say the same about Kellz

No...he didn't bring that style of music to the forefront in America. there's been artists decades before him that did that. I will say that he was probably the first notable artist from that wave of neo-soul artists from the early 90's. But he definitely wasn't the father of that style or the person who pushed that style to the forefront in the United States, or anywhere.

Not blasphemy or any type of D'Angelo slander. Look at Kells resume and look at D'Angelo's. Kells beats him all across the board. Facts is facts.

Like I said...you nikkas is trying to compare T-Mac to Jordan. You may like T-Mac more but let's be real.

Matter fact...comparing D'Angelo to Kells is not like comparing T-Mac to Jordan. It's more like comparing T-Mac to Lebron. Kelly may not be the GOAT (it's arguable) but he has that Lebron versatility. Meaning he can damn near do anything on his playing field. Lebron can score in abundance, dish, rebound, defend 4 or 5 positions...he's versatile. He's the R. Kelly of basketball.

Who was doing Neo soul before D’Angelo that was receiving mainstream success?
