For the record D'Angelo is a brilliant songer and songwriter. He definity took hjs cues from Curtis Mayfield and a little Marvin and he really helped put Neo-Soul on the map. BUT, the man has THREE albums and while they are all great/classics,

R. Kelly has 5 times as many albums. Has written and or produced dozens of hits outside of his own stuff. Wrote a hit song for the King himself. He has managed to change his style multiple times. Can go from D'angelo style R&B, to pop anthems, to club hits to cookout music without losing a step. Only one poster on here actually quantified why he thought D'angelo is better the rest is just being dismissive of R. Kelly like he wasn't making hits when D'Angelo was in high school.

D'angelo is more than a singer and songwriter though. Dude plays multiple instruments and produces/co-produces music as well.

It is outlandish. Very outlandish. Anybody that is fan of 90's R&B knows D'angelo's music. You can't be a serious fan of R&B and make a statement lile that. It's ignorant. I mean Sade is has like 5-10 year intervals in between albums, but people know her music.
