More of a D'Angelo fan, but can't deny, Kelly's run from his first 12 Play to Chocolate Factory is very strong. Would love to see D'Angelo live one day if he does another tour

Breh, Kelly was tipsy and just fukking around and did this...

He makes dope, creative music in his sleep. Kells could do a D'Angelo track easily. He's already shown that he can write and produce really dope and commercially successful music in damn near every noteworthy genre. For himself and other artists. You stanning too hard. You disregarding facts.

How am I stanning too hard when I already noted that R. Kelly is overall better?

There are 2 reasons that R. Kelly is overall better IMO:

- His resume is too decorated. I'm not even talking about commercial success. I'm talking about the legends he's written and produced classic music for

- Longevity. I think R. Kelly's music declined afyer TP2.com. I don't mess with that whole Pied Piper era, but TP2.com and everything before is quality music.

Talent wise, its D'angelo, but I don't expect people who have R. Kelly up there with Stevie, MJ, and Prince to agree. Now who is really stanning hard?

DAngelo’s put out three albums his entire career, and you’re accusing him of filler. :dahell: As if being like prince is bad :mjlol:
The entire point of his musical career is that he doesn’t ever put out any filler. That’s one of the most absurd statements I’ve read.

Meanwhile, how many “Trapped in the closets” were there?

D’Angelo’s a piano virtuoso.

No one is seeing D on the Keys. Dude is a fukking beast. Check out his Brothers In Arms set with Questlove he did some years back (before Black Messiah drooped. His piano work is better than full live backing bands. All he needed was his voice and Quest’s drumming to back him. I don’t think R. Kelly would be able to pull off anything like that.

Part of the reason that nobody is taking you dudes seriously in here is because you folk continue to try to say sideways shyt about very accomplished, legendary and beloved artists like R. Kelly, Jodeci, Mary, etc just to prop up D'Angelo.

Damn near everyone in this thread who has said they prefer R. Kelly (which is most of the people in here) has said that D'Angelo is dope. No one is shyttin on him. We know he has talent and makes good music. Why can't you guys just post why you prefer his style of music and why you think he's more talented without having to try to throw other, sometimes much more accomplished artists, under the bus? A good portion of the artists you guys are trying to shyt on has music that ALOT of folk love and play WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY more than D'Angelo's. Music that was the soundtrack of their youth and that they will play til they die, no matter how "groundbreaking" ya'll may believe D'Angelo is.

No one is shytting on anyone. I spoke real about those artist. They are great but where they weren’t game changers. Nothing against them they still great. I can name 3 guys who Kelly either sounded like or was directly biting either vocally or aesthetically. Mary J wasn’t making music any different from TLC, Xscape, SWV. You can’t say the same about D’Angelo. Dude has his own distinct sound. His own unique style. And he never compromised or did what was popular to fit in. Just explaining my rationale

Key word is "IF". R. Kelly and D'angelo's music aren't interchangeable. R. Kelly would struggle trying to make a D'angelo track. Again, R. Kelly is better overall, bit if you put R. Kelly in a studio by himself and D'angelo in a room by himself, D has a greater chance of walking out of that room with a :wow: level song than R. Kelly.

Rkelly to dangelo is easily interchangeable...Can you imagine d'angelo letting his hair down and throwing us a bone like his idol marvin g did and give us a modern day gotta give it up lol? Nah the boy too stubbornly methodical and stiff for that happen.

R Kelly has put his feet in the shoes of many artists from from tony thompson(da gawd) to michael jackson with ease...Kellz is a musical savant...Isn't he illiterate and known to freestyle most of those records/albums we know him for...:wow:

You cats really think he would struggle making a your my lady, how does it feel type junts lol....:russ:

They aren't interchangeable and here's why:

D'angelo actually plays multiple instruments and a lot of his songs aren't conventional songs. R. Kelly actually makes songs that are universal. D'angelo doesn't. That's not a knock against either. R. Kelly is a guy that can write or produce a record for mass consumption where D'angelo caters more to his base. "Untitled" is a song that actually did crossover, but that song doesn't sound like it was intended to.

When Kelly writes a song, he's not stepping into the shoes of the artist he's writing for. R. Kelly brings that artist into his world.

D'Angelo, he's my favorite artist of all time.

Co-sign, my words exactly

all the responses for D'Angelo got no backing motivation behind it, just nikkas stanning.

That tells you all you need to know about the clear winner :wow: #TheRer

:rudy: it doesn't need it, its called a love for the music he makes. I like R. Kelly, got most of his work dating back to Born In The 90's and he has done his thing for r&b. D'Angelo plain and simple is my favorite, Voodoo was a masterpiece and in my opinion Kellz doesn't have anything near it. D'Angelo's soul sounding music is hard to touch by any artist, he is a beast on the keys and and can do damage on the guitar. When R. Kelly makes a Chicken Grease, Send It On, Untitled, or One Mo Gin or SDM, let me know.

D'angelo is great.

That said...this isn't close for me. Kells all the way. It's all preference, but when I compare voice, impact, body of work, those fukkin melodies...Kelly. I remember when best of both worlds came out. He was doing an interview on BET and randomly belted out "Best...of...both...worlds..." It sounded amazing. No warm up or nothing.

Dude is a genius....plus he made 12 play, R, TP2, and you saved me. :blessed:

If we not talking Stevie and Mike...R&B Goat with all due respect to Marvin and Al. :yeshrug:

A more "talented clip"? What the fukk does that even mean? And please name all the genre's that D'Angelo covers. R. Kelly has written and performed traditional R&B, Soul, Pop, Rock, Hip Hop, Gospel and Country music. And who are these "music heads" you are referring to? Please post anything that backs up your implication that "music heads" believe that D'Angelo is more talented than R. Kelly. Also, I already pointed out that D'Angelo is a better instrumentalist. R. Kelly doesn't really do instruments. It's not really his forte.

Exactly, how can a nikka who drops albums every 10 years, drop greater songs at a more talented clip than someone who has about 20 albums worth of material, and its full of classic material that everybody knows and loves:mindblown:

Imagine If Kelly in his prime took 10 years to amass all his best shyt and put it on one album:wow:
Homie lost it with that "higher clip" statement.

One of my favorite Kelly songs right here.

any artist can make a classic album in the course of 10 years, not really that impressive. Considering how long he took to make his albums I'm less impressed that they are good. I would say they should be better actually:martin:
