Rico, Pat, and Ray are probably my favorite production collective ever. I can’t think of anybody that versatile, that original, who could say so much with just instrumentals.
My dad and I always rushed to grab anything with “LaFace” on the back so we could play it in his car’s CD changer. They blessed so many childhoods, highschool years, club dance floors, basement parties, so many rides at night with the windows down and the radio turned up.
Rico and the rest of Organized Noize perfected a foundation of bridging the past and the present, while mixing in their own distinct visions of the future. They were making the only rap and R&B songs on the radio and TV that I can’t remember the older generations ever complaining about. Just true artists in the best sense of the word; not just a W4 label for their occupation, they are and were the living definition of artists, creators, musicians.
