To some people it’s just a job. To others it’s art they make to connect to fans. I think it’s clear Outkast got too big and too successful for 3000’s comfort. Realistic they’ll never make another album nor will he make a solo one because it would be unlikely to live up to the fan’s expectations.

It’s a shame because a venture capitalist like Nas who is arguably the GOAT is out there making some of his best music right now decades into his career. While Outkast was destroyed by their own status.

We have to understand and except that Nas and Andre are two different people from two different worlds. The only thing they have in common is that they’re both black men and musical geniuses. Thats it.

Andre has loooonngggg spoken about hanging up the Mic and moving on to do other things. Even when he was doing those fire ass Throw Some D’s and Walk It Out remixes and everybody was CLAMORING for either an Andre solo or Outkast reunion album, he was talking about how utterly bored with rap he was. I remember him straight up saying he only writes 1-2 verses per year. This is the man who left MILLIONS of dollars on the table to not tour when Outkast were the WORLD’S biggest group! Andre lost Big Boi so much money from refusing that tour that its the ONLY time I believe Big Boi has EVER publicly complained about Andre’s behavior.

Nas on the other hand has spoken about his undying love for rapping and the artform. He told a story about him and AZ having a conversation one time and AZ telling Nas that he was going to invest in a car wash business for when his rap career was over and Nas thinking to himself that he couldn’t see a world where he himself wasn’t rapping. He’s said he’ll be rapping until he’s 80. Nas LOVES rap in a way that few actual rappers do, and it comes across in his music and the way he handles his projects.

Andre has admitted on WAX that he’s scared of rapping sometimes and hates stardom. Nas is reclusive, but one thing you can NEVER accuse him of is running from that Mic when the bat signal beckoned.

That's what I mean some people love what they do and some people do it because it pays. Nas doesn't need rap anymore but does it for the love. 3000 doesn't need rap anymore and doesn't really do it anymore. It's kinda like Chamillionare. He took off as a venture capitalist like Nas did and we haven't really heard much from him since. I know he had label issues too but it's usually hard for someone to simply walk away from something they love to do. It's much easier to walk away from something you did mostly out of obligation.

It's not unusual though. Many people work jobs and while they like aspects of them if they woke up one day in a position they never had to do it again that would be their final day at work. It's just that for fans it's hard to swallow that an artist you connected with and felt their work was just doing it to pay bills and it didn't mean that much to them.

It’s ridiculous how cats want them to be beefin. Ain’t Dre Big Boi’s son or daughter’s godfather and Vice Versa for Stacks son? They’re at the Oregon game watching Big’s son for fukks sake. :mjlol:

:heh: his son don't go to Oregon anymore. I think he's been at Nevada since the end of last year if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think Andre was rapping "just" to pay bills. I think he enjoyed it up until they became too big for comfort for him.

Dre was talking about not rapping at 40 during aquemini.

And there's no problems now, but there was definitely some after stankonia.

I don't think there ever were any problems, Andre just didn't wanna rap no more. He was on Andre's solos and even did production so he was always around even after the last album. Now they can't do anything together unless it's an Outkast album for contract reasons.

There were problems. You can go read magazine articles from like 02 and see big boi was fed up. LA Reid talks about the meeting were they officially broke up and it seeming like big boi was blind sided. Their dj talking about big boi being almost in tears when Dre said he wasn't performing with him. The shots on mighty o. Big again being fed up and jumping on pink matter and Dre releasing an official statement.

And those contract issues ended 10 years ago. Dre could be on whatever big boi release he wants to.

It's sad that people want them to be beefing, so badly. They're good with each other. And have been.

Dre was talking to Rick Rubin about music, and said that he reached a point where he'd made so much music, that he felt he didn't have much else to say. He said he doesn't even write anymore, unless something comes to him randomly. But tries to find new ways to be creative. He said he "never wanted to keep rapping just to rap". And he mentioned that he didn't want to force anything out now if it didn't feel right. He's a true artist. He's only doing features that move him. It's clearly not about money with him. It's about how he feels. He's not going to make sh*t for the sake of it, like most people. And I've always respected that.
