Official spends an entire career building base of donors, voters, media people, colleagues, and networks. The longer they stay in office, the more power and influence they hold. Technically that name/last name recognition, after many years in office, could help their kids.
Also, older people are the ones who vote. Young people do a lot of performative politics, but don't really show up to the polls. Harder for younger politician to break through and take the torch
