2nd. It looks like it could've been a candid, even though I'm sure it's not. The finger tattoos alone add more to that picture than anything in the first. Same for the coffee mug. The hanger bothers me yet belongs in the frame at the same time and is one of the reasons it comes off as possibly being a candid.

Doing an exhibition soon and for the last photo I have to choose between these two. I cant decide which one I like better. I think the first one is more beautiful but It kinda looks boring.....the 2nd one is more interesting but maybe thats just to me. Lets not make this about the girls looks and can we please keep this thread on topic...just tell me what you like better. Thanks!

idk...as much as i try to like the 2nd one, the first one is just a better composition in my opinion. the 2nd one lacks the symmetry of the first, largely due to the hanger, the position of the cup, and where the subject is in the room. something about the lighting in the second one throws the balance off as well. on the positive side, the expressiveness of the subject is great. if you'd rotated like 20-30 degrees to your left, i think it'd be awesome.

on the 1st one, yeah, pretty chick...but look at her fukking eyes. a little anger. a little disappointment. that's what i read...not as inviting as the flower would suggest. i feel like upping the blacks would make it more interesting and help people catch that element of the photo a little more.

Thanks for your interpretation. I tried a version of the first with more intense blacks but it didn't give me the same feeling. I think now its very delicate and has a cream like feel to it and when i look at it I feel like i hear a music box playing in the background.



Thats just me tho, I know what your saying though I ill edit it again when I see if i like it better. As for composition I get what your saying, pictures are supposed to be balanced but they are not supposed to symmetrical all the time, even though I'm guilty of that. Maybe the reason I like the 2nd picture so much is because it took me a month to take. I met that girl a few months back and I had an idea about taking a picture of her holding the over sized mug and having it covering her face and showing the free bird tattoo. She just came back off tour so I finally had my chance....her hands were much bigger than I thought so its kinda hard to tell the mug was over sized. The pic was supposed to be one thing but it turned into something else....I like it even better now I think but I always like to hear other peoples interpretations. Im gonna rotate the photo when i get the chance.

Yeah sometimes my photos are associated with music or I get ideas while listening to music. Or they will be based off memories i have that are trigged by music. I feel like music from old commercials trigger memories and wonder from a time when I was a kid and would be excited by everything.

Its all good, artistic portraits are a very personal thing....either you like it or you dont. I dont think those are my best portraits or photos but they are probably the one worth being featured in an exhibition.
