i hoop 3 times a week at local Y and practice once or twice per week.

my routine when i'm not running full court with nikkas

1. 2 ball handle drills
2. mikan drill
3. fadeaway drill
4. FTs
5. 3s
6. jump hooks left and right hands
7. basic dribbling drills
8. stepbacks
9. crossover layups - shake and bake and so on
10. 1 ball handle drills

i started doing these religiously just trying to get back in shape 5-6 years ago. It made me a better player. i'm old, so doing this 1 hour alone is a full blown cardio for me and i love it.

but man I love my food. I lost 40lb when i was on a diet but now i gained it all back. still want to drop 20lb but it's very hard for me brehs.

i'm 6ft 1 215lb ish. kinda chubby
what's the Mikan drill? :ohhh:

It’s the classic big man drill that George Mikan invented and Kareem made famous.

Stand under the basket, shoot with left and right hand, then continuously move out step-by-step. Develops your low-post game. That’s how Kareem eventually came up with the skyhook; basically just kept making lay-ups from further and further away.

@GPBear you up on Portland Basketball | Portland's Premiere Adult Basketball League?

they have leagues for every night of the week but they also have pick up games any day or night of the week. I think the first time you show up you gotta pay 20 bucks for a black/white reversible jersey and they have 2 hour runs for like 8 bucks at the most :ehh: Pick-to-Play Basketball

we can play at Moda Center :wow:
Moda Center Tournament

asians and Intel have their own leagues :russ:

Yeah I remember back in the day they’d do 2x2 tournaments and people would show up from all over. Nike connections and shyt. I’m sure Oregon ball would be bigger if it wasn’t raining all the time.

I’m washed now tho :flabbynsick:

I play exactly the same as I did in high school but with better handles and a better jumpshot.

I never could jump high and I've never been quick so it was easier for me to develop my old man game

ayo I don't know what it is, but for some reason I shoot better 1' to 1 and half feet behind the three point line(not the NBA one, the kind that only goes to the top of the key :hubie:), I'm more accurate from that distance and I have NO idea why :pachaha:

it feels more comfortable shooting it from there too.

maybe I'm nearsighted or farsighted or something, who knows :yeshrug:

Just caught this part :dwillhuh: the Jimmy is supposed to be the last thing to go :mjcry: I’m counting on riding off into the sunset as as a shooter when the :flabbynsick: finally catches me
you know what?
one thing I was never good at was the follow through, and follow through is key for a consistent jumpshot. I used to kinda flick it, short it, basically release it before my arm got fully extended on some Eddie House or Melo shyt :manny:

how did your handles get better :feedme:

It got better when I understood footwork better. Understanding how to plant your feet goes a long way.

You can also take a tennis ball or kids ball thats small and air dribble it behind your back without bouncing it, it helps you get a feel for where your hands should be placed without looking at them.

Lastly when you shoot around you need to practice with both hands. Im a lefty so I dribble better right handed. My left hand drives are mostly one dribble then 2 steps to the rack, but I started exclusively focusing on driving left in games and it helped me pick up a few tricks

My coach changed the game for me when I started shooting more mid-range.

I always had a good follow through, but I had a HUGE hitch at the top of my shot. I was pretty much releasing the ball on the way down :snoop: basically capped out my range. He told me to try releasing on the way up, retooled my shyt over the next yr, and completely changed my game once I could shoot with range.

Edit: I really hope I have a son who gets my height or more, and my build so I can get him set up early

Philly bouls, Trust the Process
Don't hoop when I'm in season, but I play pickup sometimes during the offseason, especially when I'm back in Philly with the boys.

My BBall IQ is way higher than it used to be and my feel for the game is much better than when I played in high school. My handle and layup game isn't what it used to be, but I'm still a lights out shooter with deep range, my floater game has been nice, and I'm more athletic than ever. I can blow past anyone with a combo of first step, acceleration, and strength. My court vision is pretty crazy now, I see shyt like a high level PG out there now, understand how to pick apart defenses, etc. in ways I never could when I actually played.

I was late to playing ball, so I guess my late in life development mentally for the game makes sense. If I could combine my current athleticism, IQ, vision, feel with my HS skills I would've been a real threat no cap. If I started playing ball when I was younger and didn't stunt my growth I probably could've played ball D1 instead of running track, but oh well I'm content with cookin the homies :manny:

I think the SAME shyt breh

If I knew then what I knew now with the athleticism I had in those days I woulda been a problem

Given enough time to get in shape I think late thirties me could beat 18 yr old me

I think it'd be a good game right now :smugdraper:
