In regards to Facebook, you have an option to make someone an "Acquaintance" so that you won't see their updates. Go to their profile, highlight "Friends", and there should be a drop down menu with options. Uncheck "See in news feed", and check "Acquaintances" and you won't see anything from that person unless you decide to go on their profile yourself.

Or, like Reincar said, you can just unfriend them.

Got the FB, Tumblr, and Instagram of a chick I used to mess with. Would even see her on OKC & POF. That shyt brings back bad memories.
